We were lucky enough to have dinner at Mae's - I cannot remember the last time I had venison that tasted so good. The couple that owns and operates Mae's are really wonderful and we were able to chat, drink, eat, look over all the art and local crafts and sit by the fire. It was a great experience, and... More

Had English Lakes Ice Creams, Latte and a scone in Mae's this afternoon. Interesting art on the wall. Nice sitting by the fire (It was sunny outside but cool inside). Nice atmosphere!

We've started exploring the less touristy side of the Lake District to get away from the endless parade of over-priced shops and lack of parking and find a bit of peace and quiet, tranquility and free space in the countryside. Uldale in the northern fringe of the Lakes became the target on this occasion simply because the name was different... More

Stopped in here cold and footsore, and was very pleasantly surprised to find excellent strong leaf tea and a delicious soft Victoria sponge, and all in a pretty old building (and old school hall??) surrounded by paintings, pottery and photographs. Service was prompt and friendly. The lunch and dinner menu also looked excellent and reasonably priced, though regretfully I'd already... More

Called in after a long walk mainly for a cup of tea and to check it out for future use. Ended up with lunch ! A upmarket tearoom and restaurant in the evening, with nice suitable daily specials. A good range of seating options, real fire, art gallery , friendly service and superb views of the back of Skiddaw. Will... More

We called in at the cafe during a bike ride as we were in need of calories! The quality and the presentation of the food was of a very high standard, and the service was extremely friendly. While we were there we were impressed with the evening menu and thought it seemed very good value. We booked for mother's day... More

We keep returning. It's hard to know if it's because of the great views, food, wood burner, excellent, friendly helpful staff who never rush you, large dinner portions, or the chance to leisurely enjoy the local art and crafts also for sale in the restaurant. A perfect storm in an old schoolhouse with lovely high ceilings.

Mae's Tearooms is a great place to eat. I'm a regular, calling in whenever I'm in the area. The food is excellent, good value and always good quality home made grub. The minted lamb stew with homemade bread was delicious. My partner had jacket potato with prawn and Marie Rose sauce with salad and she was delighted with her choice.... More
