Vin Rouge is a fun restaurant located in the Ninth Street shopping area in Durham. The decor and food are French brasserie style. Everything we ordered was well seasoned and delicious and service was excellent. There is a large outside seating area, as well.

I took my mom here before a performance at DPAC, upon the recommendation of others and the reviews on this web-site. I was not disappointed. In fact, I think I may have had one of the best things I have ever eaten. Do NOT miss the Bacon Jam with grilled Sourdough bread. I think it changed my life. We also... More

Terrific dinner with some outstanding food. Great house-made terrine appetizer. Wonderful sweetbread appetizer as well. Fish entrees perfectly cooked -- salmon with lentils especially. Nice selection of French wines. No tummy space left for dessert unfortunately. Only (slight) downside -- almost jarringly noisy on a Saturday night. Definitely will be back.

Since our last visit a couple years ago, this restaurant has redecorated, upgrading the ambience and now catering to a more demanding crowd. With the unfortunate closing of Magnolia last year, Vin Rouge has benefited by being a stone’s throw away and providing a unique menu featuring French bistro cooking, e.g. a charcuterie plate or sautéed calves liver. Their specialty... More

I was sad to hear the previous reviewer had such a negative atmosphere experience, when I had been so pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere just a few days later. It again was a cold, rainy packed Easter weekend and we did have to wait 10 minutes for our table despite reservations, but VR was particularly packed and they were really... More

A group of friends and I met at Vin Rouge for brunch 3/24/13. I had recommended it from a previous experience but found this visit very lacking. It was a cold rainy day and despite our reservation, we were seated at a table directly in front of the entrance where the cold air blew in constantly from the open door... More

Outstanding food and service. Mussels are not to be missed. We split and couple of appetizers and the duck confit salad –perfect hot duck on a bed of cool greens. Then split the bouillabaisse. Perfect meal. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Can not wait to go back

Outstanding french onion soup! Interesting, bistro atmosphere, ok, we ate in the bar area, but the food was totally awesome. Great wine list, very enjoyable!

Came here for brunch and it was quite crowded. Our party of 5 was eventually seated around 2 two-tops pushed together in a corner, which made for an awkward experience. The music and decor seemed designed to appeal to Durham's hipster element, which just seemed to make things worse. Then there's ventilation system. They either don't have one for the... More

While living in Durham for six months in 2012 I regularly patronized Vin Rouge. Although I enjoyed full meals with friends, often I would sit at the bar and enjoy mussels and a glass of excellent French white wine. We visit France and Paris annually and Vin Rouge is as good a bistro as you will find inside and outside... More
