Heard a lot about this place, walked a long way to get to it, waited a long time, and never got a table on a quiet weekend afternoon. Lot's of people came out, lot's went in, but no table for this boy. Hmmmm. Got the distinct impression we weren't wanted. Where's the heart and soul?

It was a unique experience. We did not care for the spices used, but the soul roll was amazing. The chicken tenders were good as well. The chocolate cake with chocolate frosting was very good.

I heard nothing but great things about Mert's. I am not sure if it is somethiing that they cook but there is an odd smell in the restaurant. I ordered some to go food and waited approximately 10 to 15 minutes. When I left I could not get the smell off of my clothes. It was so weird I ended... More

If you are from the south or not you have to stop by Merts. The southern/soul food is mouth watering, and the homemade cakes are out of this world. Stop by and enjoy!

I wanted this place to be good in the worst way. It has the makings to be something incredible but it sadly Mert couldn't pull it together. Food: Average at best. The cornbread was good. My husband's shrimp po boy was good, but the ribs, mac n cheese were mediocre. Atmosphere: Absolutely filthy. The table and walls were sticky and... More

Service is just as wonderful as the delicious food. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner are all wonderful! This is "Home cooking" at it's best. Recommend Sweet Potato pancakes for breakfast.

Went back again after about a year, because my husband wanted to take his brother. I was against it, It was worst than before, the food had no seasoning and it just did not taste good. Do they taste the food? The cornbrd is excellent and they should dump the salmon cakes for a piece of salmon. Anyway won't go... More

Remember the food to be ok but they would not take my Groupon because it expired. I read afterwards that they are required to at least give me the cost of coupon back. Not worth going downtown and arguing with them over.

I wandered into Mert's because it was attached the hotel that I was staying in for a business trip. To my delight, they had great food. The fried chicken was succulent, moist and never greasy. I had it several times over the two weeks that I was there. The side dishes are good, but a little heavy. The mac and... More
