Description: Carpe Diem has been open since 1989. We have moved twice due to downtown business developments, but are now in our third incarnation at 1535 Elizabeth Avenue. Our interior is done in a beautiful art nouveau style. Mahogany doors, copper lighting that vines around the wood work, and marble floors are just a few details that will engage you in the surroundings. We, the proprietors, sisters Tricia Maddrey and Bonnie Warford, are from Miami, Florida. Our interest in food grew from a love of the Latin and tropical flavors that influenced us growing up. Our menu offers a variety of dishes reflecting "new American" cuisine.

One of our "regular" spots! The food is consistently delicious, service excellent, atmosphere fun. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken has been their specialty and there is generally at least one person from our party who orders it. Love the goat salad, the spinach and the fact that they do such a wonderful job mixing unusual flavors. They often have great specials... More

Eight of us visited Carpe Diem on Sunday for Mother's Day brunch Loveley decor, excellent atmosphere, great service and wonderfull food. What more can I say? The food was beautiful to look at and even more exciting to eat. We were two couples each ordering different entrees. I had the filet steak which was served in a sauce that was so good I dreamed about it all night. The salmon came with a glaze that I long to be able to reproduce at home but never... More

I am a picky eater, so when I saw the menu, I did not believe I would like anything. I chose the steak with mashed potatoes. It was delicous. The steak was cooked perfect, Their bread was outstanding. I had their creme brulee for dessert and it was wonderful also. The wait staff was nice and helpful. Our glasses were... More

The restaurant was fairly quiet the night when I attended a business oriented dinner. The food was fine. Don't expect any exceptional.

My significant other and I had a wonderful meal last Saturday evening. We started with the oyster special and a sald. The oysters were exceptional and our entrees were great. The fried chicken was better than the mushroom ragout. We've eaten here several times and the service has been very good and the food imaginative.

Decor warm and inviting. Service excellent. Food was disappointing this time. Everything we ate from appetizer thru dessert was over seasoned and spicy. We have eaten here before and it was much better then. My husband did not finish his cous cous because it was so overwhelmingly spicy. Even the chocolate dessert was full of spicy cinnamon. I think the... More

After being quoted a one and a half hour wait at Good Food on Montford on a busy holiday weekend, being able to secure an Open Table reservation for 20 minutes later (about the length of the drive) at Carpe Diem was a blessing. After a short wait on a comfortable couch in the bar, we were promptly seated. The... More

This place is incredible. Based on a friend's advice, I ordered apps only and we split them for dinner. I'd love to return to try the main courses. We shared the warm goat cheese salad, which was incredibly savory and delicious. Then we shared oyster beignets and they were like a sophisticated hush puppy with a spicy finish. Then we... More

We stayed in Charlotte for the night and looked on trip advisor to find somewhere to eat. This was one of the only top ten restaurants open past 10pm on a Saturday. The fried chicken breast with Yukon potatoes are delicious. Try it!!! I would sed anyone to this place. Awesome for Date nights!!!
