As a Chapel Hill resident, in many ways I am disappointed to see that Elaine's does not top the list of Tripadvisor-recommended restaurants, although given the preference of the general American public for Chili's and Applebee's, I cannot say that I am surprised. I love that someone recently commented that they got a better meal and better deal at Jason's... More

My husband were town for a getaway weekend without the kids. We saw the Tarheels beat Virginia earlier in the day and we wanted to celebrate. This was the place do it. It was a lovely night. I am an avid fan of the tv show Top Chef and we feel that is what we experienced. Our waiter was fantastic.... More

I can't believe Elaine's is so low on the list. After 2 meals at the #1 ranked restaurant vs. 2 meals at Elaine's, I'm sold on Elaine's. Upon entering it felt cozy and inviting even though it is a small, busy, tightly configured space. The staff was professional as they should be in a fine dining venue. My daughter and... More

My husband and I went last night for the Valentine's prix fixe, so it could be that our experience was influenced by the high-turnover occasion; we had not been before. My husband really loved the monkfish he had, and his appetizer, which was a smoked trout salad (I tasted both and really liked the trout). I had a risotto cake... More

Let me start by saying we ate here last fall, and the food and service were both outstanding. So a table was booked for my brother's birthday, and we were all excited to go again. Elaine's is expensive, but with the quality of food and service we got in the fall we were willing to treat ourselves to a big... More

Call me mercenary but the experience was just not worth the ching. Flounder, good. Swordfish, good. Dessert, good. Foie gras, good. You get the idea. No WOW factor here. Except for the bill.

We came in from N.J and took some CH friends out to what the NYT's calls the best restaurant in Chapel Hill. It was a prix fixe deal because of the night so it was a big ticket. That being said the food was quite good. Our appetizers were delicious- the Oysters Rockefeller were excellent and the ethically challenged foie... More

Took a very discerning friend to dinner, he commented on the welcoming atmosphere, terrific service and creative dishes. Highlight for me was the warm chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream. We will continue to return as owner/chef Brett Jennings deserves the business.

We came for our anniversary. First time. We were drawn to then chef owned local menu changing with what is local and fresh. I loved the look- eclectic and trendy with exposed brick and great art. The service was wonderful. But the best by far wAs the food I am glutenfree ( allergies ). They were very accommodating and every... More

My partner and I deem ourselves foodies who have dined at many of the different outstanding restaurants in the triangle. It was thus inevitable to give Elaine's a try based on the many raving reviews and good press. We dined here on a Friday night, and decided that we won't return. While there was nothing bad about our experience, there... More
