An unusual and interesting menu -- more dishes to choose from than seats in the restaurant. For example, the Terrine of Roasted Garlic offered a unique combination of garlic, pesto, and chèvre, full of flavor. I could go on and on, since every single dish the four of us tried was memorable. Calico is reason enough to justify a trip... More

Starting with the home baked bread and finishing with the amazing pastries, this husband and wife team deliver incredible punch in this tiny place. The menu is ambitious with lots of inventive preparations. I have been eating here for over 10 years and have rarely had something that wasn't perfectly cooked. Some may find the wood walls and floors a... More

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. On the recommendation of our hotel we tried Calico. Bread was hot and freshly baked, in house we were told. Then I had the roasted garlic soup and my husband had the terrine of garlic and goat cheese. Yum! Entrees were harder to decide on with so many choices. We had the... More

I just enjoyed a 50th birthday celebration at Calico, and I was very impressed. The restaurant is very small and quaint, with a lovely wine list that features a fair amount of half bottles as well as full bottles. The mrnu is intriguing, and the food is simply outstanding. This is not a place that is afraid to use herbs,... More

Hemingway once referred to Paris as a moveable feast, but he never had an opportunity to visit Calico, restaurant and patisserie! This place is a pure gem! If you are visiting Duchess County, NY..perhaps you are in search of antiques or a visit to FDR's home..you MUST go to Calico for dinner. This is a small restaurant owned by husband... More

I have been going there for ten years now and have never had one bite of food that wasn't amazing. It is one of those places that you might miss when you walk by because its so small. But I guarantee that if you eat there once you will never forget it. Personal recommendations: Lunch- pasta with 5 cheese sauce... More

Located across from the Post Office and the Beekman Arms, this is a fabulous bakery with a few tables and restaurant quality food that would be called a sleeper. The pastry goods and other delicious items are a credit to Leslie Heinsohn-Balassone who is the Pastry Chef/Owner and her husband Anthony R. Balassone the Chef/Owner are extremely talented and of... Excellent and innovative food. Intimate milieu. Nice salads and very elegantly presented dishes. The pastries are to die for, especially the Sarah Bernhardts! Lunches are often a good deal. Only negative...the place is quite small and there are not many tables so you are lucky if you can get one!

Calico is a fantastic place to eat. The food is prepared with a high level of expertise. Everything is delicious from appetizers all the way through to desert. The restaurant is very small so reservations are really needed. I can't wait to return for another fine meal.

My wife and I moved out of the city into the Catskills in 2002 and last night was our first visit to this cozy, intimate and wonderful restaurant. There were four of us and each dish was so tasty you could say we ate family style. Bread was being dipped each others sauces, shrimp, sole, scallops, mussles, etc were all... More
