I live in Portsmouth and very much enjoy dining out in our rich selection of restaurants. My friend and I had been looking forward to visiting The Green Monkey as it has a very good reputation. We knew it would be on the expensive side but we thought it would definitely be worth it. I am now regretting not complaining... More

The owner greeted us as soon as we walked in the door making us feel ever so welcome. I chose the Green Monkey because the menu offers many gluten-free options. We were delighted to eat warm home-made gluten-free bread. Not everyone in our party is gluten-free so there was regular bread as well, but everyone wanted the gluten-free as it... More

This is a restaurant we have visited before and will continue to do so whenever in Portsmouth! From the moment you walk in, it is warm and inviting - you are often greeted by the owner herself who is terrific! Stop a the bar for a drink and try one of their many martinis - my favorite is the green... More

I must admit we tried this place because of the advertised martinis...I got the Blood Orange and the Ginger Pear which were fun and delicious (and pricey). The food was so so (I got the Seared Scallops and they were rubbery and needed a better flavor, not bad but not good) and also pricey. The place is small and a... More

My wife and I went here for a celebration with our family and had a great time. The food was great, and service was quick. The waitstaff is very attentive and they anticipate things for you before you realize that you anything. You'll enjoy this place.

We were a fairly large group - 8 people - on a Friday night. The restaurant was 80% full. While the food was quite good, we found the service to be uneven. The table of three adjacent to us arrived after we had given our orders but they received their entrees well before we did. When the desserts were served,... More

Wow, a dining room staff that understands how to create a fine dining ambiance. True attention to making sure the guests enjoy their meal and conversations. Chef did a fine job preparing both the vegetarian and fish dishes we ordered. Appreciated that the waiter was able to accept my order for a fruit cup, not on the menu, without any... More

As a life long resident of Portsmouth I admit that we have fallen into the "safe" places to go for special evenings out. This year for my husbands birthday, I wanted something a little more special than safe. Thankfully I chose the Green Monkey! Being greeted at the door by Deb, the owner, with a warm welcome felt instantly like... More

We have been to the Monkey several times, but Deb recently outdid herself. I planned a surprise party in Boston for my wife's 60th birthday, flying in our children from hither and yon as the special present. Less than 48 hours before the event, my wife informs me of her plan to participate in a training session that will make... More

Started off at the bar with a delicious key lime martini. Preceded to dinner with several coworkers and overall had an ok experience. Rolls were cold and a little hard, but yummy. Thought it was odd we weren't offered butter, but oil was good. No salt and pepper either-odd. The scallops for dinner were pretty good, but still had some... More

Hi ,littletravellotafun That key lime martini makes you want to be on the beach in your shorts and flip flops glad you enjoyed it. Glad you liked the the rolls, we have them made daily for us, a ciabatti and we make our own house infused olive oil which I think compliments them, next time you are in we do... More
