Very good Bun, egg rolls, and cheese puffs. Service was fast and very attentive. Family friendly and would recommend to anyone for authentic Vietnamese food.
Pleasant place to eat, very good service, attractive room. I've tried the Vietnamese and the "Ameri-Asian" like sweet/sour chicken. Vietnamese food is much better. Large portions...you won't leave hungry. Lunch specials are available. Prices are reasonable. Free parking immediately next to the restaurant (not always found on University Avenue)
I just relocated to St Paul from Arkansas, where we actually have a large Vietnamese and Laotian population -- but that is another story. Short version is that I have regularly eaten Pho, Bun and everything in between at a lot of authentic Vietnamese and Laotian restaurants, but Hoa Bien killed it. Best by far (granted it is only me... Very spacious, clean, visually appealing place. The staff are solid, helpful, experienced, and quick. And the best thing is the food. Totally fresh, with no sloppy gooey sauces, just perfect spicing, and thoughtful presentation. Broad menu. Try the lettuce wraps with the tiny meatballs!
I have been going to Hoa Bien for years. I now live in Buffalo MN and make the 100 mile round trip drive just for the Pho, best Pho in Minnesota! My family also loves the egg rolls and cream cheese wontons. The Lo Mein dishes are also excellent. This restaurant is more than your average Vietnamese restaurant, it is... More
There is something about the freshness and flavor in the Rice Noodle Salad. I chose #55 with the egg roll but there is quite a variety to choose from. It was so good, I went back two days later--and I don't live close by. I have tried the Rice Noodle Salad at Vietnamese Star Restaurant in Maplewood and Duc Restaurant... More
SOOOOO good. The best of Vietnamese. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Our entrees - and everyone esle's entrees we see - are spectacular. Can't imagine - and haven't experienced - a better Vietnamese restaurant - ever.
Due to its location and size, this seems to be the most popular place for people to get Vietnamese food in St. Paul. However, that does not mean it is the best. I think their food is average at best, and more expensive than other Vietnamese places off the beaten path. It's always a good fall back for a work... More
Hoa Bien is a Vietnamese restaurant on the corner of Lexington & University. You can only get to the parking lot going west on Univ., which is important because of the light rail construction going on. Anyway...the Bun Cha Giu (eggroll salad) is so very tasty there. The soups are huge and chocked full of vegies and noodles, although I'd... More
