We have travelled places where a local diner's food was four star. This diner, while "the original" from which the chain developed, was subpar even by diner standards. Service was OK, 50's music was OK, but we both ordered their special for the night (prime rib) which could hardly be cut with a knife much less chewed, and the place... More

I almost always stop at Black Bear Diners when travelling because the food is always very good, the service cordial, the decor interesting, and the menu comprehensive. I had breakfast on this trip, and some of the best hash browns ever.

We love Black Bear Diners and enjoyed visiting the original in Mt. Shasta. Breakfast was delicious and bountiful. We were amused by the "500 calorie" breakfast that we should have shared as 1/3 the breakfast may have been 500 calories. Friendly caring service and clean well appointed family restaurant. I liked their Tuesday Teddy Bear Special - a free chid's... More

We have been to several Black Bear Diner locations. This is the original restaurant where it all started. Large portions of good food.

I was out for a joy ride and touring the area and stopped for lunch about 1:30. This diner was packed. Big groups sitting at the tables, most table were filled, lots of noise and waitstaff banter back and forth. Deciding to sit at the counter I was greeted right away and a place mat menu placed in front of... More

Spent several days in Mt Shasta and experienced many of the local dining establishments. Black Bear was one of the least noteworthy. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Clean. Wonderful breakfast. Pancakes were huge and delicious. More than ample servings. Dinner, however, was disappointing. Went on Friday night for their fish fry which was advertised at the front door. Waited 20 minutes... My wife and I travel from central California to Oregon ofter, and have had a bit of a time finding the perfect spot to stop for a good meal; well we found it in the Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. The Black Bear restaurant chain started here in Shasta and has grown to many locations throughout the West... More

This was my first Black Bear Diner several years ago though we now most often visit the one in Redding, which is right around the corner from the hotel my parents like to use when we all meet in town. On this most recent visit to the Mt. Shasta location, my son and I rolled in around 2pm and requested... More
