Loved this place, very cool, no pretence, rough round the edges place. Great fresh food. Good music. And BYO too so a real winner for us :0)

Stumbled by this place accidentally and went in because it was busy. The food was amazing! Really cheap, big portions and great service.

Asked our hotel owners where to get Chinese food and they recommended Mao's which was just a short walk. We got pork fried rice topped with an omelette. Although we had to wait over 30 minutes it was very reasonable and also tasted great and was such a large portion we had it again for breakfast in the morning. It... More

I haven't tried everything on the menu because the first thing I tried, the orange peel chicken was so delicious. If you like ginger ask for extra and you will kick the orange peel chicken up a notch. Also if you prefer things a little spicier I recommend the spicy mustard and red chile sauce. The dumplings are great as... More

Fairly decent quality chinese, with above average ingredients. Plenty of good vegetarian options. Reliable delivery on the westside; never been more than an hour. Best part of this little hip place is it's BYOB.

First night in Santa Monica was at a local Italian place, 'thirty-six bucks for 4 bones' was the big joke. So we were in a bit of a shock at the prices and less-than-stellar food in the area. Luckily a friend we were visiting asked to meet us at Mao's. It is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place." A" rating by... More

Had lunch with a friend who recommended this place, everything on the Venice walk was overcrowded. Upon entering, I thought it would be another overpriced, touristy beach place. Very glad to say, I was wrong. The food was excellent, up there with San Francisco Chinatown, portions are huge, and you get to choose what kind of meat to add to... More
