I recently enjoyed a pleasant evening at Old Austria in Port Elizabeth. Peter Raymer recieved me warmly at the door and selected a very good table at which to seat me. In addition to his duties as maître d', Peter assists three waitresses and a busboy. The service is good, efficient and creates a smooth, relaxing atmosphere and environment. The... More

It is a few years since our last visit here, but Old Austria remains one of the better restaurants in P.E. The menu is as extensive as we remembered it (in fact, I don't think it has changed at all) and on the whole, remains good value and the food is generally of a good standard. Our one main gripe... We have just had a lovely, long lunch at the Old Austria, Port Elizabeth. The service was excellent - helpful and attentive without being intrusive and the staff were charming and knowledgeable and took our requests for slight changes back to the kitchen with no problem. The food was delicious and beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Lovely! There were... More

We had a private room (??) booked for 11, but it ended up being a large table in the foyer right on top of the pianist, who managed to almost drown out all conversation when he was playing. Attentiveness was mixed given the restaurant was not that full, but the food was excellent all round and agreed by all diners.... More

This is a firm favourite of ours - the food is excellent, always so fresh and well presented as well as good value for money. The service is good and the ambiance so relaxed and pleasant with the pianist playing softly in the background.

Crisp and clean, good service and was perfect for our staff lunch. The resturant layout is spacious and was ideal for our party in that we had privacy in the booth chosen. Food was excellent.

The menu is tried and tested. Try their German specialities, like Fritattensuppe,Jaegerschnitzel or Zuricher Geschnetzeltes. Or Avocado Ritz and the fresh linefish of the day. The ambience is reserved, yet jovial. Even more so when the piano is playing! The service is attentive, but not overly so. This has been, and hands-down remains, the Number One restaurant in PE!
