If you want to experience a restaurant where the locals eat, try the Makka restaurant. It's two blocks from the train station. Service is super fast and the food is excellent. Lots of choices. Restroom is clean.

We found this little gem thanks to advice from a guide. The basic Egyptian fare was tasty and the restaurant was filled with locals (they knew a good deal!). The restaurant was clean and the service was fast. Definitely good value.

We ate at Makka (Al-Makka) twice during our stay in Aswan, based on reviews in the Lonely Planet. It's just off the main road with the souk, and most of the other diners were locals. The staff were efficient and quick, and our food arrived piping hot within a few minutes. We had basic kofta with all the trimmings, which... More

The Makka Restaurant . . . I went twice! Roast lamb and potatoes, mixed vegetable stew, rice, and as the standard gesture of hospitality, the owner covered the table with small plates of baba ghanoush, hummus, raw vegetables and pita

Clean, used by locals, byt the food was deeply disappointing because it had been cooked and recooked until dry and tasteless. our mistake was to accept the owners recommendation to have the House Special mix of meats. It was indeed endless, and unfortuneatly tastless. Best order a specific dish like the Stuffed Pigeon, but if it arrives in 5 minutes,... More

We dined here on a recommendation of our taxi driver when we visited Aswan on a day trip from Luxor. Best meal in an Egyptian restaurant by far. So many side dishes included , I had the special of the day , the lamb ribs , others had the mixed kebabs, one local dish we didn't like but the rest... More

one of the cleanest frequented by locals as much as tourists. The food was great, big portions, and very reasonably priced.

If you want to find a place that’ll serve authentic, local food, go to Makka Restaurant in Central Aswan. We had some lamb kofta, ground lamb patties, as well as stuffed pigeon. The stuffed pigeon is stuffed with a spicy rice and is eaten entirely with your hands. It was messy, but delicious. The mezze was also quite good, with... More
