If you are hungry visit Makka. You get a lot of food for no money! Very close to Aswan train station.
We found this little gem thanks to advice from a guide. The basic Egyptian fare was tasty and the restaurant was filled with locals (they knew a good deal!). The restaurant was clean and the service was fast. Definitely good value.
We ate at Makka (Al-Makka) twice during our stay in Aswan, based on reviews in the Lonely Planet. It's just off the main road with the souk, and most of the other diners were locals. The Makka Restaurant . . . I went twice! Roast lamb and potatoes, mixed vegetable stew, rice, and as the standard gesture of hospitality, the owner covered the table with small plates of baba ghanoush, hummus, raw vegetables and pita

The stuffed pigeon is stuffed with a spicy rice and is eaten entirely with your hands. It was messy, but delicious. The mezze was also quite good, with...
