Lovely lunch, delicious fish and chips accompanied by very good wine. After a long walk it was a welcome meal in a beautiful setting. Staff were pleasant though seemed to go missing just when you wanted something. One waitress wore very heavy loud boots - not discreet and totally inappropriate on wooden floors! Also noisy table arranging took place during... More

We spent one night here while walking queen charlotte track and was amazed by the freindly staff, great food, fantastic views and the kayaks! We had a lovely dinner meal in the cafe and great breakfast. The rooms were excellent and the washing machine was a welcome addition.

The theme for Marlborough is 'Love Marlborough', well this is definitely the case for Lochmara! I love Lochmara. An easy 10 minute water taxi from Picton, Lochmara is a gem. Gorgeous location, scrummy food, great coffee, attentive service, lovely art, stunning scenery/views, fun walks, unique art, animals and birds to pet and look at, wonderful accommodation.... and much more! Lochmara Cafe has wonderful food and coffee - some of the best of both we have ever tasted and consistent throughout the 3 days we were there. We also cant speak more highly of the for their consistently high standard of service and the way they worked as a team to support their patrons.

We spent 2 days at Lochmara and every single thing we ate at the cafe was excellent and showed real attention to detail. We had breakfast with eggs from the chickens on site, and even the toast was perfect (really good bread, cut into thick slices and perfectly grilled). Every day there was different baking – I had to avoid... More

Thanks Colnz! We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay and your food. We do all our baking on-site, except the bread which comes from an awesome local bakery, and yes, it's great. More

Shane and Louise have created a wonderful sounds experience here. I have taken visiting friends to Lochmara a few times now and just love enjoying a nice meal in the sounds after walking, kayaking or boating to Lochmara. I really enjoy the nature walk with the parakeets, eels, Punga people and sounds views. There is something for visitors, children, art... More

Thanks for the review. We really want to capture the spirit of the Sounds for people, and it's lovely to hear that people come away loving the Sounds. We try and keep the day trip cost as low as we can, and we do have group rates and regular-visitor options. A proportion of all day trip costs go to the... More

I headed out here for lunch on New Years Day with friends and we were all a little worse for wear of course. This time of year is always going to be busy and there were plenty of kids running round, swinging into the sea etc. However we didn't have a problem getting a mooring or an outdoor table at... More

Thanks for the review! I'm very pleased to say we've taken you feedback and made some changes to our systems. it's always going to be a little challenging on days like New Year's, but we've tried to streamline the process for drinks/food, and tried to prepare new staff a little better for the sudden rush. Hopefully when you come back,... More
