Found it on Tripadvisor and I'm so happy I did! Small restaurant but great menu, especially for authentic Hungarian food. Also great wines for normal prices and very friendly staff.

As a group of nine rather 'mature' friends, we were made very welcome, and found the restaurant lived up to all the excellent reviews. There was a large family party group in on the ground floor but this in no way impeded the excellent service and delicious meals we enjoyed in the gallery.
Pros: Excellent service; v good food - many classic recipes some combined with innovative ideas; reasonably priced compared to other large European cities; enjoyed the wine recommended by friendly staff who had excellent English; complimentary homemade bread (excellent!) with their tomato specialty; food we ordered...2 lovely entrees-asparagus (simple & perfect), salmon carpaccio with caviar (lovely except for tomato wedges...seems to...

This restaurant is a bit off the beaten track but was worth tracking down. Good authentic Hungarian food with a buzzing atmosphere downstairs (because they were very busy and we hadn't booked we had to sit upstairs, which was much quieter).
Authentic Hungarian cuisine. Excellent Beef stroganoff and good goose risotto. Excellent helpful staff well worth a visit.
Absolutely worth hunting down the backstreets off Andrassay Avenue to find. A delicious saturday lunch to top off a fab weekend in Budapest. Many locals eat here and it gets busy in the evening. The owner is such a helpful chap, he amended everything for me as i have a wheat and dairy allergy. Nothing was too much trouble. Make...

Cafe Bouchon is a nice little gem that sits in the small streets close to the Opera house. It is a small family run restaurant that offers daily "Chef's special" menu. Their soup is awesome, one of the better ones I have had. Would totally recommend this place. Not open on Sundays.
A hidden gem! Visited after reading excellent reviews and was not disappointed. Food was reasonably priced, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. We had the cheapest white wine on the wine list (around £8) and was one of the nicest wines I have tasted. For dessert I had crepe Suzette which was beautifully delivered with flamed Grand Marnier. Staff were really...

Superb food in an atmospheric location up near the opera, I would highly recommend. Would have got an excellent review if the wine waiter had not selected a 30 Euro bottle of wine when asked for a recommondation.
A terrific meal. Terrific food at every turn, great service, a delightful bottle of a Hungarian Bordeaux blend (70% Merlot) -- this is a down home restaurant that serves excellent food at reasonable prices. Not inexpensive but very reasonable for the quality. We are going back for our last night in Budapest, and already looking forward to it.
