We were recommended to go and grab a bite at Shippey's, which was a good suggestion. The restaurant is located on Kelly Tarlton's old explorer ship where they serve some tasty fish 'n chips and burgers. The views from deck were beautiful.

The best thing about Shippey's has to be the fact that it is on a large wooden sailing boat next to the lake. The fish was very fresh and the atmosphere great. Brilliant experience.

A wooden galleon ship moored in Waitangi River right next to Waitangi bridge. Andrew Greagar, owner and operator and proprietor and barman....what a sweet little "best kept secret in Northland" pad you have here man. We loved the fresh fish (choice of 2 with full explanations given as to the differences), lightly battered, nice chips...not at all greasy or smelly.... More

Fresh fish and lightly battered, chips, home made and not greasy at all. Reasonably priced and just a look in the galleon is worth the stop. The seafood chowder is delish, you can eat in or take away and opened at nights for an exceptional meal.

We walked from our accommodation at one end of Paihia to build up an appetite for the Fish & Chips we'd heard shouldn't be missed. Shippey's could easily be overlooked if you didn't know about it. The boat itself is an interesting experience. It's history & Kelly Talton's role in it is an interesting read. The F&C were served in... More

We stopped here mid-afternoon for a late lunch with the kids. We were the only guests at the time since it was between lunch and dinner. The dining room was on the deck of a ship with more seating below deck. The kids loved exploring the many nooks and corners the ship had. At night I could imagine this becoming... More

Popped in for an early dinner. Friendly staff. Not many people so service was quick. Casual atmosphere with great tasting fresh fish & chips. Good value too. Kids loved checking out the ship. Great views over the water as the sun set.

Shippey's is just a few minutes drive north of Paihia on the Bay of Islands, next to the Waitangi Bridge on way to the Treaty Grounds. We really enjoyed the uniqueness of the location, an old chelsea sugar boat, built in 1899. Located as it is onshore next to the lagoon on the Waitangi River, it provided us a beautiful... More

My wife and I visited on a Saturday night without a booking and found the place booked out. The manager was great and tried to fit us in but too many people were enjoying themselves to make room. we decided to eat elsewhere but said we would be back. we returned the next day for lunch and got a table...
