Located in a quiet street just off Salamanca place, Montys has been going now for many years. The menu is good if not overly exciting, but it does offer a good range of Tasmania fare. Not that many options for vegetarians, which is a surprise considering the amazing fresh produce this town grows. We had a nice meal there. The... More

As a local I've been to Monty's many times, somehow I missed the fact that Matt & Nat have moved on. On Friday night, Monyts missed them. There were some exciting elements in our food but the service was missing the ease & professionalism evident under Nat's management. One Entree of oysters (as you would expect) & one of scallops,... Just ate at Monty's tonight after googling the trip advisor review to find somewhere to eat in Hobart. Got to say I was impressed with the food. Not massive amounts, but very tasty and reasonably priced. Wine is a bit expensive but you can BYO for $10 corkage. The open fire was very welcome on a cold Hobart night and... More

Thank you Lucy and to your partner who is the chef at Monty's. My wife and I and my sister took my mother to Hobart to see MONA for her 90th birthday. And to see other sights in and around Hobart. Her birthday was 9 May and we were looking for somewhere special to celebrate. Somewhere with a little old... More

We recently enjoyed a lovely dinner at Monty's. The staff were professional and attentive and the wine list had many Tassie options. We both enjoyed our meals and were particularly keen on the use of local produce. Overall, good food and value. We would go again.

The new owners have surpassed themselves after only 2 weeks of management. The food was superb, interesting and beautifully presented. It was hard to believe we were not at a top European restaurant. Actually even better as we had fresh Tasmanian produce. Try the pork belly or chicken but make sure you order the fruit sorbets on the artist's palette... More

The house is lovely and having the private room was great. The waiter was exceptional in service and knew a great deal about the wines and food. The table setting was well laid out and inviting. FOOD Most of us ordered the scallops. Tasmanian scallops are sweet with a delicate flavour. The entree dish was too complicated and confusing. There... More

The food was good but the flavours were a little underdone. The service was friendly but somewhat amateurish and even though we had dinner at 7.30 some of the dishes on the menu were not available because they had had a busy day before and had not ordered enough raw materials. With better management the place could be really good.

We dined here last year and were thrilled at the level of standard executed by the last owners, this time round on our return trip I can say the new owners have exceeded our expectations,. Food is clever clean and exciting, make sure u leave room for some amazing deserts and the wonderful service we experienced by the new manager... More

With a couple of glasses of wine and 2 courses budget around $100 per person. The ambiance was lovely, the setting intimate and friendly, staff were fantastic, helpful and attentive. Entree and main were delicious...but alas the dessert (pavlova) was disappointing. Why oh Why do so many wonderful restaurants let you down at the end with their desserts. That being... More
