Basically because we had a prepaid voucher for a meal - and I was too tinny to throw it away. Bad mistake - I should have. The whole restaurant and the staff looked grubby. The laminated menus had grot on them and were grubby. The staff all looked grubby. The decor hadn't changed since I was last there about 10... More

I'm a local and have tried my best to overlook the the slow service, strange staff and dirty kitchen for over a year now - just because the food is good. But after my last take-away order where I spent 40 minutes waiting in the filthy take-away area and still didn't get what I ordered, I have given up on... More

Came in and sat down instantly thought we should have gone to the place. Food ok. Very dated and appeared dirty. Had a slight bad smell as well. No atmosphere and waiter appeared to not know what he was doing. Probably will not come back.

Food is great, service is very lacking, even on a quiet night. Waiter was sweet, but completely out of place. Value for money, but will only have takeaway from now on.

This place is a mixed bag,the service is casual at best, but friendly. You may have your order taken by a man with a toddler strapped to his front ,but this adds to the bizarre nature of the place. The overall feel is a bit grubby and dated. The food takes a while to appear, but it is definitely worth waiting for. This is probably the... This place is gold. From the outside, and even inside it looks a little run down and seedy and yes the wait for food can be long and yes the waiter carries his (adorably cute) child around but honestly the food is incredible! I have been many times and each time it's even yummier than the last. I love how... More

Restaurant is quite dated inside and inn desperate need of a refit. Staff very friendly, casual and relaxed. Interior was a little messy and gave the impression it wasn't clean. Then the food came out, which was very good, very tasty and authentic, really enjoyed it. The price represented excellent value given the excellent food and service was also very... More

When a restaurant advertises itself as 'authentic', authentic it usually is not. However, Taj Palace, as other reviewers have pointed out, is authentically Indian in ways both good and bad. The food is excellent, and I can confirm what one other vegetarian reviewer wrote about the Saag Paneer: easily the best I have ever eaten, anywhere on earth. But yes,... More

I've been coming to the Taj Palace for ten years. I'm a chef, and I follow the cooking. Taj Palace has the closest thing I have tasted in Australia to the real thing in Jaipur or Jaisalmer or Agra. Their cook is a legend - great bread and dhal and curries. I guess the seedy surroundings and the halfwit service... More
