It's shut until 2014 hopefully a full refurb will help as it was looking and feeling very worn out. Was very average
Please note after visiting here in August 2013, there is now a notice advising that the pub will not re-open until April/May 2014.
My wife loves a good steak and has never been disappointed here. You would be surprised how few places can do this in the Tavistock area. Maybe it is because they use fresh local butchers or just happen to cook them as we like but it is the best at the moment for us.
LIving locally, I go there quite often. The menu is a little 'samey' BUT it is dog and child friendly; staff are fantastic and always helpful. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a no frills but honest evening. As a single female, I would go and feel safe - great atmosphere, great ales and reasonably good value for... More
Had a quick Sunday early evening dinner here with a couple of friends. It is a dark traditional pub with a nice selection of beers and typical pub grub. The barmaid was very helpful and friendly but the pub was empty and so quiet that the atmosphere was sadly lacking. We all had an acceptable meal, Scampi, Lasagna and chips,... More
This pub was our saviour on a rainy, windy night whilst camping nearby. The welcoming fire and staff were a godsend. The front bar, which is the old part of the pub, is traditional and cosy and everything you could want from a country inn. The newer dining area is a little soul-less for me but is great for families... More

The pub obviously takes pride in serving fine real ales and, as the beermat covered wood ceiling testifies, there's a regular rotation of great guest beers (and even draught... More
Stopped off for a quick drink on our walk back from Tavistock, it was nearly 3pm and they were due to close, but we were made to feel most welcome. The ceiling is covered in beer mats so you spend your time looking upwards...!!! We didn't eat, the menu on the blackboard looked very tempting and reasonably priced. Will definately... More
Ok pub, bit dingy and need a makeover. Food on first night was ok but on going back another night it was terrible. two members of our party had the meat pie, the pastry top was not so much cooked as welded on and uneatable, other meals were average. Unfortunately there are other pubs in the vicinity which do it... More
The Trout and tipple is a traditional pub which serves meals in the pub area as well as a restaurant area. We sat in the pub area on a cold wet night the roaring fire inthe hearth was very welcome. The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu whilst not extensive covered all the usual pub fare bases, there were... More
