We had the pleasure of dining at this lovely restaurant earlier this week on our way through Mainz based on tripadvisor's rating. What a wonderful surprise. About a 15 minute walk from our hotel near the train station. The food was excellent and the waiter was entertaining and accomodating. He chose us a wine that was not on the wine...

Specialties are wild game, deer, boar, etc. Done beautifully. One of our favorite cold weather restaurants. A little off the standard tourist path - betqween the Am Gautor & the Kastrich, not far from St Stephen's Church. Well worth finding. Be sure to make a reservation.

Place was recommened by a friend who lives in Mainz - its a place most tourists don't know about and was full of local people.
Food was absolutely excellent - they don't have an English menu, but the wiater speaks pretty good English and can translate. Menu is mostly local traditional German food - you have to be a little...
