Description: One of Dubin's best-kept secrets is this divine Italian eatery located on the Montague Street. Run by John Farrell and Anita Thomo, Il Primo has a romantic retro vibe and a bespoke approach to simple, seasonal Italian cooking. The menu at Il Primo is influenced by the rustic flavours and traditions of Tuscany, and the eclectic and intelligent wine list is also imported directly from the same region. Perfect for dates and intimate dinner parties, Il Primo is a hit with gourmet-loving Dublinites, and signature dishes here include the spaghetti served with a chorizo, tomato and chilli sauce; the creamy smoked haddock and chive risotto; and the slow-cooked pork belly with cider poached potatoes and garlic spinach

This was my third trip to Il Primo. After my second trip, I decided it wasn't worth the money, but courtesy of a voucher present, I found myself back there in October. Its still not worth the money. It is Italian food, but without the oompf. The basic ingredients are there, but the in-depth flavours, the gutsiness/subtleness (depending on what... More

My partner & I eat here about four times a year... We have being eating here since 2008. Our last meal was Dec. 10th 2011. Its a small-ish place, with three sections. There are about 16 seats downstairs... and then two sections upstairs either side of the stairs. We really like the staff, the atmosphere and the food. The wine... More

What an outstanding experience. I am ItAlian and have a very hard requirement for restaurants. Il Primo hit every requirement. Simple, yet very tasty dishes. I started with thhe slow roasted tomatoes, messy an greens and fresh mozzarella. The tomatoes were truly slow roasted in the restaurant, which can be hard to find. I then chosen the roasted chicken and... More

I have eaten here twice this week while in Dublin for work. Unlike many restaurants it's a completely relaxed place for a solo diner - friendly but not in your face, completely relaxed, unpretentious, not too noisy or quiet, and great food. On my first visit I had a starter of a salad with strips of sirloin steak - in... More

Went with partner and two friends - joined by a third for a glass of wine which was no problem for pleasant, attentive staff - and had a good first experience of this smallish Italian restaurant which is on a sidelane off Harcourt St, close to Stephens Green. Will definitely try again. Place has a great downstairs window the entire... More

This restaurant accommodated our party of 26 persons in a small and intimate private area last night. They designed an amazing 3 course set menu for us which had an excellent range of variety and choice. The value for money was super, the service was great and the food was even better. The manager of this restaurant was exceptionally friendly... More

I had dinner with my husband at Il Primo on Monday night. I appreciate that Monday night is not the best night to go out for dinner in any city. This was certainly the case at Il Primo. Having read lots of great reviews I was really looking forward to having dinner here. It cost almost 100 Euro for 2... More

My Favourite italian in Dublin, lovely food, a bit pricey, try & get a table downstairs by the massive window & watch the world go by on the mainly pedestrian back street. More

Had dinner here & would highly recommend it, delicious homemade pasta dishes, good selection of Italian wines, staff very friendly & enthusiastic. Very busy the night we were there & only slight downside was we felt we should move on once meal was finished as they needed table for a later booking but this is only a small point &... More

I was taken to Il Primo on a trip to Dublin by a friend who knew Dublin well. What a delight. The food was the best I had while in Dublin. The rissotto was simply amazing. We sat downstairs in the bar and had an unhurried meal in candle light. Pasta was lovely served by friendly staff. Very romantic evening... More
