Our third trip to Battlesteads and it definitely won't be our last! Lovely to eat in a place where our dog is also made so welcome in the bar. I had white onion & chive flower soup to start, my husband had seared calves liver - both excellent. We both had the most delicious rabbit pie with leek suet crust... More

We were very pleased with the food at this restaurant. We both had beef burgundy and it was to die for. The lemon meringue roulade desert was mouthfuls of airy pleasure. This is the best meal so far on our two week trip to England. Highly recommended.

Made a point of coming here after reading all the rave reviews and were sorely disappointed. This place seems to be suffering from a superiority complex. Kind of pretend posh if you know what I mean. We both had beef (rib and sirloin) ordered medium to well done which came well done. It was tasty enough but I expected more... More

Having read the reviews I was really looking forward to my lunch. Upon arriving, having pre-booked (I must say not looking the smartest (we'd been to an owl experience day out!)) we had to wait until the hostess found us a table (there appeared to be quite a few free in the main dining room to me but.....?). Anyhow we... More

I had a visit to the Battlesteads on Friday night April the 19th 2013. We where greeted by the staff on the bar in a friendlily manner as soon as we arrived .The bar area has plenty of places to sit while waiting for your table to become available. & unlike Cafe 21 in Newcastle where I had a meal... Had our evening meal here while staying down the road at the black bull. Lovely welcoming atmosphere. Drinks were expensive though at £5 for a peroni and wines of 175ml starting from about a £5 food for the most part was excellent but our steaks were disappointing. Mine was really grisly so our dog who was under the table did... More

We've wanted to visit here for at least two years. I've read about Richard and Dee's achievements in the local press and industry magazines. Richard is Chairman for the North East BII and I had previously met them at a Tourism event. They are really into sustainability and grow lots of their own herbs and salads in polytunnes onsite. I... We were staying half board at the George & wanted somewhere different for Easter Sunday lunch. Our waiter recommended & booked it for us the night before so we werent sure what to expect. We are not normally fans of the dried up meat & soggy veg that you usually get with a Carvery so my heart sank a bit... More

Arrived it was already busy got parked in the rear car park, got drinks at the bar on arrival and were taken straight through to our table, given menus and a few minutes later the waitress came back to take... Beautiful setting, with food to match. Top class pub-grub, with delightful desserts, flavourful fish dishes and an extensive carvery on Sundays. Eat in the main dining-room or in our favourite, the conservatory with interesting wild-life scenes in daytime and also beautifully lit-up in the dark. An eatery for all seasons with roaring fires in winter and indoor/outdoor eating as you... More
