The Perky Peacock became our go to breakfast place in York. Fine coffee/tea, porridge and bacon sandwiches, all served in what used to be a 13th century flour mill!
We first went to the peacock by the Lendall bridge over 4 years ago and we like it so much we went back recently. Lovely food and the coffee was great too. Our son really enjoyed the hot chocolate he shared with his Dad. This time we went to the second coffee shop on Gillygate as well. The staff were... More
Only a small cafe it still manages not to feel claustrophobic. We dropped in on a cold Saturday and managed to perch on the end of a larger table. I had a very nice pork and apple sausage roll and a very good espresso. My wife had a home made scone and a ' London fog ' to drink! I... More
Came across this by chance and so glad we did. It's tucked away in a kind of turret and is a lovely little room with eclectic furniture and lots of arty stuff around. We had a selection of drinks and food including delicious coffee (soya milk available - yay!), bacon roll, incredible cinnamon bagel and cakes. All very reasonably priced... More
Was going to pop in Costa's up road but had read a poor review so had a look what was available, found this place under bridge cracking bacon butty & even better coffee small but lovely place well worth a visit.
Visited based on the reviews I had read here. They are not wrong. The building itself is not very big, only seating a dozen or so people but it is quite quirky. We only had a coffee and sanwiches and they were very nice indeed. Definitely recommend.
Gillygate is a narrow excessively busy street along which at least one ambulance seems to be hurtling at any one time. But the PPCS maintains its cool: friendly staff, good cakes and a wide variety of hot drinks etc. And wi-fi.
Visited here for breakfast, can't say they have a huge selection but what they have is very very good. My hubby had a bacon sandwich, lovely thick tasty bacon on brown with rich tomato sauce. I had the cinnamon bagel - wow what a tasty treat! Our 11yr son had a sausage roll which although they couldn't warm up was... More
The menu is ace. Flat whites and a dirty chai! Which is a chai latte with a shot of espresso. Very original things like this throughout. The venue is well preserved and very clean. Staff is friendly and incredibly nice. The perfect cafe treat walking through the city. If you don't want to stay in the tower then they have... More
