Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a wonderful tea house run by Debbie who is the loveliest lady, she is so kind and such a laugh and gives all her guests her upmost care and attention. The food was exceptional and we had a fun night staying at the...old tea house. Real salt of the earth lovely family run business. Looking forward to returning.More

If you haven't visited here yet then please consider it. Its not only an olde worlde tearoom, you can enjoy cream teas, lunches, Sunday dinners and even stay in one of the two rooms. We stayed in the suite a few years ago and have...recently been back to stay again. It is very special, very comfy, plenty of room, and you may even be lucky enough to hear the spirits trying to tell you they're with you. All positive there is no negativity at all. It's a wonderful experience! Breakfast comes with your stay and tastes amazing! Say Hello to Debbie (or Derek) too, she/he has some stories to tell you.More

A warm welcome and delicious food. Debbie our host made sure everything was perfect. This is a family run restaurant and B&B and everyone goes that extra mile. Many locals make several visits a week. That is always a good sign. Bone china crockery added...a touch of class. The cream tea was the best I have ever eaten. There is a choice of homemade scones and they are huge. The building contains numerous furnishings and tapestries that complimented the building which is over 500 years old. Well worth a visit and definitely a place we will visit againMore

I totally recommend this establishment. The owner and staff are super friendly, and the Dorset apple cake I had with a pot of tea was delicious (and a huge slice!) Definitely worth seeking out if you are in or passing through Dorchester.

We went along to try their raspberry and white chocolate scones foremostly! Having seen the tea house featured on TV programme about Dorset, we were keen to experience it. We were greeted so warmly by the owner who asked us as we were sitting down...if we wanted tea or coffee - it felt like we were a guest in her home. I loved all the quaint Mis-matched crockery. It felt like I was visiting my nan’s for the afternoon. The scone was really lovely - and warm! We also tried the traditional Dorset Apple cake with some clotted cream which was also lovely. We spent some time talking with the owner about the history of the tearoom which is amazing to hear: from being a safe house for the friars, to a holding jail for those waiting to go before Judge Jeffreys, to a milners, a penny farthing shop and a favourite tea stop for Thomas Hardy - who would believe such history was in that place - we found ourselves sitting in the window seat thinking about all the people who have sat there before us. A lovely place to stop for refreshment - as others have done for hundreds of years.More

Visited after seeing the tea house on Dorset coast and country. We had a lovely warm welcome as soon as we entered. Beautiful quaint place seeping in history. My little girl said it was like someone’s living room. Staff were lovely, youngsters were polite and...smiley. Ordered 2 cream teas and a cheese sarnie. Had plenty of tea, scones were hot out of the oven. Really good value. Will definitely returnMore

Excellent coffee and wonderful service. Debbie was so helpful, nothing was too much, and ran the place in an efficient and very friendly fashion. I was served by Felix, who made sure my cup was never empty. And it is like going back in time,...with furniture that reminded me of my mother's home! And those beams and fireplaces.More

Wow - I have had some Afternoon Tea's in my time but this was by far the best. The quality and quantity were perfect, service was top notch and we were all very satisfied. The scones and cakes, as well as the Sandwiches were beautiful...and so wonderfully presented. We will definitely return on the future the next time we visit Dorchester and highly recommend this charming tea house, Many thanksMore
