I can't say enough about Calypso and Filipe. When you walk up he treats everybody like a friend he's known for years. His smile and fantastic personality alone would keep me coming back. The food is so reasonably priced and the taste MAGNIFICENT!!! Everybody should go see Filipe at Calypso it just wouldn't be a great trip to Cancun if... More

We very much enjoyed eating at the Calypso. Philepe was very friendly and gracious. The food was excellent, as was the service. In our opinion, it is a must when visiting Cancun. More

This was by far the best place I have ever been on vacation. Philipe (the owner) was so friendly and personable I could have thought I had known him for years. And the food! No words can describe the food. The flavor was wonderful and the quality was top of the line. Between the service and the food I plan... More

Yes Virginia, there are 2 Calypso restaurants in the hotel zone of Cancun and they are own by Felipe. My wife and I went to the original (and much smaller) restaurant, which is located away from the noisy area of the island. The seafood was excellent! We had the conch & fish "soup" (big bowl of conch and other seafood... More

Went here with my 5 sisters to celebrate a 50th birthday. Luckily we made a reservation, not because it was crowed (only 1 other table was taken, as it was a weeknight during a slow week, just after Thanksgiving), but because Felipe offered us a plate of simple mixed seafood, grilled to perfection, as he knew we were coming. Dinner... More

I think there are two calypso restaurants in Cancun. This review is not for the photo above. We went to Felipe's restaurant. It was wonderful. I had stuffed sea bass. Delicious. This restaurant is tucked away in a slightly remote location. There are literally no other restaurants or shops located adjacent to it. There is a street sign pointing to... More

We just wanted a place close by to eat and this was it. We were the only ones there, but maybe because it was early. It is a small but quaint restaurant. We enjoyed our fajities very much and service was good. Would recommend. More

I saw all the gushing reviews on TripAdvisor so we decided to give Calypso a try. After going there I'm confused about the reviews. The food was average at best, the selection rather limited and the service was slow even though there was hardly anyone there. I don't feel it was a rip off, but I would not go back... More

We've decided to visit this restaurant to do the good reviews on Tripadvisor but also because we like sea food. It was a nice experience and I have to say that we had the best meal in Cancun...but also the most expensive. I have to admit that it was probably good value for the money but I think that the... We ate at Calypsos for dinner 4-5 times during our last trip to Cancun...and it was great each time! Felipe is a friendly host, a good chef, and is happy to change/cook menu items to your preference. He gets much of his fresh seafood from the local fisherman downtown and costs are pretty reasonable. More
