My family of 6 ate at Cafe Esperanza last week. Tropical burgers, mahi sandwich, salads, all were yummy - beer was nice and cold. Server was friendly! Will definitely eat here next time we are on OSJ.

Everything is fresh! Ceviche wonderful and mahi sandwich recommend! Try the handmade limonade with a shot of green apple rum!

The reviews on this little gem were nonexistent when I looked on Yelp and may be sparse elsewhere so I'm thrilled to be shining a light on these guys. The fact that we even ate there reminds me of a story about destiny. We had been running around Old San Juan all day and were on our way back to... More

We really loved this place. It is a very small cafe frequented by locals. I had the Mahi sandwich which was fantastic. The people who owned the cafe were very friendly and the food was great. Service was a little slow however sitting outside and people watching helped the time go by fast.

My mahi mahi lunch plate here was better than what I ate at the Ritz Carlton. Simple and tasty. The owner gave us the secret. Best you go and find out yourself. Beware the third mojitos :-)

Cafe Esperanza looks like a local hole in the wall from outside. Inside there are only a few tables but the restaurant has beautiful paintings and local music. Our server knew every ingredient in each of the offerings on the small menu. She had some recommendations for the kids, for the one vegetarian in our group, and for me since... More

Old San Juan is beautiful, but can be very noisy with tourists and cars until you come to the area around El Convento. Cafe Esperanza is my secret spot, nearby. They have outside tables fringed by palms on a quiet side street with no traffic, just a beautiful tranquility. They served the best Mohitos I ever tasted, and the owner/chef... More
