The Activity Centre just down the road was great, the staff so friendly and they were very kind and lovely people, and made my husband feel really special. Quarry Cottage was recommended by a friend who had stayed there earlier this year, who forewarned us about the somewhat unsafe garden furniture - we took our own - and beds. We were unab..."le to contact the caretaker, as requested to do with our ETA, either the night before, or four times during the day of arrival. Nobody local seemed to know where the cottage was, and we were thinking we would have to resort to a B&B. Eventually we found someone in the Post Office who gave us some vague directions, and with the help of a farmer we arrived, to find the gate and windows wide open. We surprised a girl in the shower, who had been told she could stay an extra day. Both of us were rather embarrassed and felt in the wrong - although we were in the right!   "Really nice location on the river Wye. The cottage was a nice size for two people with everything we needed. It had a lovely private patio right on the river bank which was perfect for relaxing on in the evenings. The owners live in a house next to the cottage and were very helpful and welcoming...". The area was really nice too with plenty of walks and cycle rides close by. Also the villages such as Hay-on-Wye were worth a visit. Would definitely recommend staying here! " More >
