  "My boyfriend and I took a Friday off work from Santa Fe and decided to drive through Chama and up to Pagosa Springs. We stopped in Chama for lunch and then spent the day up in Pagosa. Upon heading back to Santa Fe last light around10:30 p.m.,and about 20 miles from Chama we struck a bear going 60+..." miles an hour. Our Toyota Corolla was badly damaged and the big brown bear was still moving off to the side of the road. The front end of our car took terrible damage and 911 was less then helpful. We got back into our wrecked car and inched back into Chama where the area was all shut down. We managed to get the car pulled into the Branding Iron hotel making terrible noises from dragging car parts. Richard and Jane (managers) both came out and were exceptional in getting us checked in, allowing us a late checkout time, and providing assistance in getting ahold of the insurance and so forth.
