The food sold from all outlets on Hamo is amazing, but it can be rather expensive after a while, especially if you have a family, so I can highly recommend staying at the Whitsunday Apartments, cooking the majority of your own meals and spending your money on things like buggy hire, or reef adventures. The outside of the apartments are definitely dated, the open corridors and the lifts could really do with an overhaul, but as soon as you open your apartment door and are greeted with the amazing view from the balcony you forget all about the corridor you just stepped in from! I won't repeat what others have said about the welcome, the perfect, unobtrusive service and the beautiful location - but one piece of advice - pay extra to stay in a Windward room! We started in a Leeward (nice room with an OK..." view); and moved to Pavillion 22 on the Windward side. WOW. It's pretty much the same view as you get from the reception area in the Long Pavillion - of the sea and nearby Whitsunday islands. This, combined with the complementary yoga class each morning at the spa, gave us a tremendous sense of wellbeing and joie de vivre. We spent eight days at qualia, and we found the menu at both the Long Pavillion and the Pebbles Beach restaurants a little limited. Service in both restaurants was always friendly and professional, but service in the Long Pavilion in the evenings was often painfully slow. Our 2 year old loved the fish pond/waterfall in the reception area. Snorkelling near low tide was surprisingly good with some coral and quite a few colourful fish around. I had read mixed reviews on the friendliness of staff on the island, but from the cleaners to the restaurant staff to the person who takes phone bookings, we found them all really helpful and friendly. There were plenty of places to eat close by or a short free bus ride / walk away. I didn't know what to expect from the buffet breakfast but it was fantastic!
