  "The outstanding thing about this hotel is the friendly service from the manager which made our stay very enjoyable. The view from the room was really quite lovely. The room has all the usual amenities but is not in the luxurious league. Traffice noise can be a bit rowdy as the main road passes by..." the hotel, but we were not distubed by it. There is no lift so enjoy running up and down the stairs! This hotel does not offer a laundry service to guests which is a bit irritating. There was evidence of a laundry in the hotel, but apparently not for guests' use. Why do hotels have trouble understanding that travellers need laundry facilities almost as much as a bathroom? We were directed to use the public laundry at the camping ground a short drive away; what can I say? We got our laundry done, but I wasn't thrilled by the smelly toilet/laundry building. A good breakfast is served in the dining room, but not usually anything hot other than boiled eggs left to wait for you in ... " More >

  "Camping Birkelt, great site to start & finish a tour"
  "This is the 4th time we have stayed on this campsite. The sanitory facilities are first class and heated under floor, just the job on a cool morning. Lovely walk down into Larochette via a very scenic route. Petrol station and supermarket in the village as well as several restaurants, bank, shops..." etc. It is approx. 250 miles to the Dunkirk port and takes about 5 hours with a couple of stops. " More >
• Camping Birkelt

  "Spent a night at Camping Birkelt en-route to Monaco via Switzerland arriving mid afternoon. It's a big site located in/adjacent to a forrest. The pitches are quite spacious and boundaries are a mixture of shrubbery/bushes. There are also plenty of trees which cause a problem with TV or Sat recept..."ion but I guess are a god send when the weather gets hot. We did not get time to explore the many Forrest trails although we did walk down to the local village - Larocette which appeared to be a nice affluent village. Being a big site 400+ pitches, there are plenty of facilities which were clean and tidy and there is also a bar, restaurant and well stocked shop. Also plenty for the kids - covered swimming pool etc. etc. In summary a very typical European site with easy access (although remote), good facilities, great for the outdoor type and well targeted to the children, would we stay there again - yes.
