  "We stayed at this pub / hotel for a wedding base. Upon arrival we were greeted and sent to our room (think the bell hop expected a tip, we were unsure?? never stayed in a pub where the bell hop expected a tip!!! He did not carry our bags to our room!!) We ate in the bistro on the first night, lovely..." fish and chips, we had a wait on drinks but our table was quite large ( around 20 people). The breakfast on the first morning was ok, (The full Suffolk) we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere but the breakfast was not as good as we expected, small portions with black pudding, no tomatoes or beans and only one bacon rasher and sausage! During the second evening the hotel obliged with a late bar due to our wedding party which was great. We missed breakfast on the second morning due to a hangover ! Checkout was a disappointment - 11am!!!!   "The Great House is a very good boutique hotel located off the main square in Lavenham, where you will also find ample free parking. We stayed 2 nights as a birthday treat and enjoyed our stay. The Hotel has an excellent reputation, for its “French Style” restaurant and was full on both nights s..."o we suggest that you book ahead to guarantee a table. The staff (mainly French) were excellent, very attentive and provided a high level of service and this matched the food. There is a good choice of wines and the maitre de is happy to guide. The cheese board is a must with maybe 20 French and local cheeses to choose from. Our room (no. 4 -The Loft Room) was a generous size, well appointed with a comfortable bed, dressing table and a seating area. The bathroom was also a good size with a nice bath & shower.
