We stayed 4 nights at Sacha Lodge. It manages to make you feel safe & civilized deep in the Amazon. The mornings are early and the jungle is hot, muggy, and buggy but you have long midday periods to rest in comfort and clean, air-conditioned rooms with jungle views. The WiFi was oddly very rationed (max 2 simultaneous logins per room) and required logging in after brief periods of inactivity, but was actually quite fast and reliable (could stream video easily, even with a VPN, and I measured it at 80Mbps). The food is good and they were accommodating of our picky children with pasta and pizza options. We were the first children in months- the main demographic seemed to be retirees- but our children had a very good experience. The guide you are assigned makes a huge difference since you are with them all day, on at least two excursions, and is hard to control. By far the highlight of our experience was our guide, Geranio. He was extraordinary- a local Quichua who grew up in the jungle in an indigenous community 20 minutes downriver but who had studied for 5 years in the United States. He could literally sense things in the jungle- in the pitch black one night he “felt” a tarantula nearby and turned his flashlight directly on it. Another time, he stopped mid sentence having sensed energy nearby and pointed out a sloth that was almost impossible to see, camouflaged on a nearby branch. He could spot birds on branches hundreds of yards away. He delighted our children, especially our 5 year old, with his ability to craft anything from the jungle, making a backpack out of palm leaves, fashioning crickets, millipedes, and canoes while we walked. He was fearless- picking up “bullet ants” and letting the crawl around his hand, while other guides watched. We felt very lucky and Sacha Lodge is lucky to have him.

A once upon in a life time experience going to the Amazon. The wildlife is extraordinary. The highlights for me were the number of birds (70 species seen in 3 days), the monkeys, and the insects, spiders and frogs seen on the night walks. The lodge arranges morning afternoon and night outings into the forest with a guide. Maximum group size we had was 6 people. Our guide was excellent and was very knowledgeable about the forest and its wildlife. The food at the lodge is good and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, we missed half a day (out of two and a half days), due to a broken plane. Never a great start having to get up at 5am and then have to wait 6 hours in an airport. Flight from Quito to Coca, then boat up the river for an hour and a half, then a walk for about half a mile, and a small paddle boat through the jungle in a small river, which opens out into the lake and the lodge the other side. It feels genuinely wild. The noises in the jungle are quite something too - cicadas, frogs and who knows what else. Fausto was our guide who grew up in an amazon and hunted anacondas for several years (I think for research...). He knew what made every noise. Thatch huts made up the dining areas and separate rooms, invisible from the lake or each other, but with impressive walkways to get around within the camp. Rooms were more comfortable than expected with aircon and big jungle-view windows and a balcony with a hammock. Aircon made a huge difference as it was so humid. Amazonian giant otters came during lunch one day which were beautiful. The platform 40m up a kapok tree was stunning and the birds which came to fed nearby were varied and colourful. Take decent binoculars. Monkeys in the trees are great. Food was good, but not what you should go for. All in all a great place, highly recommended and I would say go for 3 days.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you found our setting magnificent and that you enjoyed the genuine wildness of the jungle surrounding our lodge. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the broken plane. We understand that it can be frustrating, especially after an early start. This place is fabulous! I was on a bird watching trip in Ecuador and the "extension" of the tour was to the Sacha Lodge. We went up in one tower in a tree, another place with 3 towers and bridges between them, and a crane - to allow us to look for birds in the canopy at eye level or above, rather than craning our necks. It was so much more than just birding. There is an plethora of different mushrooms, many of which have medicinal uses. We saw at least 7 different species of monkeys, 2 species of Cayman, 3 of bats, 2 piranhas (which we also went fishing for), river otters, a red-tailed boa and a long-nose brown frog. What an incredible experience. The rooms are gorgeous with huge windows looking out into the jungle. I had such a great time. Just be aware, that i can be VERY hot and humid between 11 am and 3:30 pm, which is a great time to relax since you start very early in the morning.

My daughter came for holidays to our homeland and decided it was time to visit the renown Lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon and we were not disappointed. From the first contact we felt welcome and incredibly pampered. We have been in the Amazon before but this is -by far- the best experience yet. The room was surrounded by nature, every detail made up for a wonderful stay. The staff was kind and helpful. Our guide was a passionate Ecuadorian whose love for the nature showed at every moment. The food was plentiful, varied and delicious. Our biggest shout out, however, is to the Management who -with love and faith in our country- have invested unaccountable resources to make a Paradise in the middle of the "Green Hell" May they thrive and show many more Ecuadorians that we can make our country famous again, famous for its beauty, its variety, its lovely and charming people. I am proud to have old and profound roots in this beautiful country and also proud to call Guillermo and Roxanna, Andres and Andrea my friends. Benny would be very proud Gracias a todos y sigan adelante.

What a great adventure. The guides were very knowledgeable. Our guide was Dorian. He did a geat job. They take you in small groups, 3-6 so they can manage everything easier. If you are too tired to do something, they will rearrange so you can do it a different day if possible. The manager, Jose, was always around. If you had any problem, he took care of it right away. I was impressed by him. They take good care of you. I felt very safe. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

I had the good fortune of being here as an extension of a birding tour to Ecuador. I was the only one from my group that selected to go and they missed out on so much opportunity. I had my own guide who was the source for the birding guide book for the area (seek him out!). He was so knowledgeable, new all the calls, behaviour, tracks, and etc. - he was from the area, not some wanna be import. The accommodations, transport, and food suited me beyond my wishes. The staff were first class. I would love to return with my wife for a second tour our more. I'm sure it has been mentioned but their towers and platforms and walkways were incredible, well built and safe ( and took my breath away) .

Gerald was an amazing guide - we have been spoiled for all other guides now! His passion and patience were incredible, and his love for the Amazon, its flora and fauna, and its culture was infectious. He was super kind in answering all our questions and tailoring the experience to our group’s curiosities. The staff also go above and beyond to make it a comfortable experience. Sacha is incredibly well run and has everything figured out to ensure a positive, unique, and comfortable experience. Would highly recommend this as a must-do for anyone’s time in Ecuador!

Words cannot convey the magic of this place. Our stay was the highlight of our trip to Ecuador. We were privileged to see so many amazing animals of the forest as well as learn the incredible way of life of a local tribe based in the Yasuni National Park. We found anacondas and piranhas on boat rides, spied sloths whilst walking above the canopy on suspension bridges, viewed Macaws from the top of a capon Tree and wandered amongst the most beautiful beautifies to name but a few key moments. All the staff are amazing from the knowledgeable guides and gifted naturalists, the fantastic chefs and wonderfully attentive customer service team. The cabins are stylish and come with air conditioning. We spent many a lovely afternoon in the balcony hammocks reading and watching the rainforest. Sacha Lodge is an amazingly special place run by incredible people, could not recommend enough
