Pretty village pub with rooms. Small restaurant but excellent food of a quality expected from more up market restaurants but at a reasonable price. We booked bed and breakfast for 2 nights. On first impressions a lovely old pub with low beams and wonky floors and ill fitting doors. Breakfast was good but there was a supplement for the full... More

Daughter and I shared a twin room on a Saturday night here. Very picturesque, right on what used to be the roaring-busy A21 through Lamberhurst, but now the bypass has taken all that away. Very nice room, secure, comfortable, nicely decorated with eclectic but good vintage items. Lovely fluffy white towels and well-dressed beds. Cute little ensuite, everything worked, and... More

The place was recommended by someone who lives in the area so I was confident it would good. And it was! The room was nice, functional and fairly spacious. The decoration was basic but it was clean and had all you needed. The breakfast the next morning was lovely, with cereals, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and toasts cooked by the owner... More

I have been staying at the Chequers for many years when I am fishing at Bewl Water, I have seen landlords come and go and experienced the highs and lows of this establishment. I skipped staying last year because the previous year was not a good experience, however I heard that new people had taken over and decided to give... More

Beautiful pub full of character and very pleasent staff all at the Chequers in Lamberhurst. Visited for lunch and having previously enjoyed the chorizo opted for stilton and pear salad and a filled ciabatta with tuna and sweetcorn, which was savoured by the open log fire. We have frequently eaten with many family members including children and have always had... More

Having arrived on time we waited for 30 minutes until the staff came round to take orders, we finally got our main course an hour later, when we complained were told that it was our fault because a couple in the party had had a starter!, they had waited 20 minutes for them to arrive. And was the food worth... More

Having enjoyed a couple of hours at nearby Bewl Water we popped into The Chequers Inn in Lamberhurst (3 mums and 7 kids). The pub itself is beautiful with lots of character. The staff welcomed the children, aged five to 11, with muddy shoes and it was hot chocolate all round. The children sat in their seats for a good... More

We have recently had a night's stay at Chequers and had a great time. The pub itself, run by the incredibly hospitable Nigel, has really good beer on tap, and a nice selection of wine. We also had some really good food, Nigel is a chef by trade, and you can tell. The room was clean and tidy and slept... More

We had an excellent meal in this lovely old building in the picturesque village of Lamberhurst. We were sorry that we had not booked in to stay overnight such was the friendly welcome that we received from the staff. Extensive good quality food menu, good wine menu and definitely somewhere we would return to and stay in if the opportunity... More

Extremely welcoming! We stayed for one night having visited Scotney Castle and Great Dixter. It was just what we needed - very relxed - good beer, excellent food and service. Our room was fine - clean and functional and we had a good nights sleep. Would certainly recommend to friends and go again.
