Not that they didn't try, not that the room wasn't OK and not that the new pool wasn't wonderful in the heat but... Read enough reviews about Ercolano and you will soon realise that it isn't the best town to stay in. However, for the independent traveller looking to do Herculaneum, Vesuvius & Pompeii the location is ideal. I'm sorry but you really need to ignore the Cruise Shippers complaining about "gritty" Ercolano. This is a working town with incredible ruins underneath. This hotel looks like it was built in the Napoleonic age - huge gardens - grand vistas - incredible marble fountains - all in various stages of past glory - extremely charming.
