The location of this Refugio adds to its attraction. It is conveniently located en route to the Base of the Torres hike, which in my opinion is one of the highlights of the park - a must see! Operated by Fantástico Sur, prepare yourself for high prices on extras. The meal offering here was above average compared to their other... More

Considering the cheapest bed costs USD40 this place is a bit of a shocker. I´m sorry to report that all it gets you is dirty bedding, which in all likelihood you will have shared with a few former guests...and their fleas, broken taps and access to a store which curiously retails condoms and deodrant. The staff are so unwelcoming, unhelpful,... More

I was totally underwhelmed by this hostel. The only person who seemed to be doing any work was the chef. The bedrooms and bathrooms were dirty (my girlfriend carried home a number of unwelcome fleas which bit me the following night). Instead of sitting around playing cards, the staff could have been cleaning the rooms and the windows and welcoming... More

Agree with Lauren B whose review was very well written and corresponded with our experiences at El Chileno. We had two nights there, 9 of us in total and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Yes, it is a mountain lodge in a very beautiful location, only accessible by foot/horseback so there are limitations. However we were there over NYE... More

This is a fantastic place and the hikes is wonderful. But, when we arived here the personal didn't seemed to care about anything. We thought we arrived at a bad time but this feeling and behavior endured our whole stay. Not even a hello or goodbye when we arrived or left for hikes. My advises is to camp or choose... More

Look at a map for God's sake!... For where we were I can't imagine asking for better food, lodging or service. Think about how the food and staff got there before you complain. We arrived in Torres del Paine in late afternoon/early evening, got dropped at the Hotel Las Torres, and hit the trail for Ref. Chileno. Folks at Ref... More

So after a crappy stay at refugio los cuernos we arrived to a pretty cold reception at Chileno. The food was ok for the remote location, at least better than Cuernos. When it came time to sleep my sleeping bag and pillow stunk of somebody else's sweat. My wife didn't get a pillow, not even a stinky one! After almost... More

Horrible service, very dirty, staff very very poor. It´s like a youth hostel , but dirty, noisy , no service at all, really expensive. No one care about the rules. Avoid it if you can. If you are 20, go there!!!!!! You can do whatever you want.

The main problem in Torres del Paine is that if you want a decent experience you can't avoid this agency for the W tour. You have to go with them during two nights, the first one in Chileno refugios which is sooo bad ! The welcome is just awful, you are treating as a piece of sh** ! They did... More

The front desk welcome was far from warm, the girl had clearly had enough of working there. One of the guys in the kitchen was really helpful and kind. Dinner was nice, but no sooner had we finished eating than we were asked to vacate our table. And not politely asked, but very rudely asked. Apparently there were other people... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Refugio El Chileno is located on the way to "Mirador Base Torres" a "must" in Torres del Paine, it is 2 hour from Las Torres sector. Many visitors pass through here on their trek to the base to recover energies and drink a nice hot chocolate. We highly recommend to stay here and wake up before sunrise to the base to see the red and orange colors of it reflected on the granite towers (sunrise hour depends on the month). Here you´ll find the Refugio, camping a little store and our Restaurant where you can have all your meals. At El Chileno we produce almost all of our energy, using a wind turbine combined with a diesel engine and batteries, we also do not use here high demand energy devices, please help us to take care of our energy. The only way to get to El Chileno is by trekking or horse, even for our staff, meals and all supplies - when you get here think about how we did it with the stoves, eggs, fridge, etc....Useful info: bring sandals for showers, towel (rental available). For tax exemption, do not forget to bring your passport, immigration card given when enter to Chile and foreign currency (tax exemption not available for camping guests) ... more   less
