Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited Asford Castle for afternoon tea as an end of Honeymoon treat for my beautiful wife Noreen. It was way above my expectations to be honest. From we arrived Joe on the door was so welcoming, Paddy one of the elder staff members of staff(47 years working here) and a man who had a part in the world class Quietman film was very interesting and informative. Lana, Erin and Thomas made our afternoon such a great experience with their professionalism, friendliness and explanation of the beautiful food we were treated to.

Hotel's Favourite
There are no amount of superlatives to give to Ashford Castle that haven’t been bestowed on it already. As the title says … it’s one of a kind. As soon as you drive onto the castle grounds and witness the magical moment the castle sliding into view on your right … you know you’re about to experience something truly special. I’ve stayed in castles before, but nothing comes close to the Ashford experience. It is a legitimate part of Irish history; a genuine, real-life, intact castle; and yet, still manages to be one of the most luxurious hotel experiences possible in the world! Everything about this place is exceptional. We dined in the George V Dining Room … it was a Michelin star experience with all the service theatre you’d expect from a Forbes 5 star hotel. We did archery and the hawk walk … they were amazing fun with great instruction from the ground staff. We walked the immaculate, awe-inspiring grounds every day … it was an almost unreal experience of extravagant beauty. We drank cocktails in the Prince of Wales Bar … there was real flair in the mixology on display and everything tasted fantastic. There is also so much variety. Ashford is obviously an expensive venue, but unlike many hotels, you could easily spend a week there (fair play to you if you can afford that!), not leave the hotel grounds, and not get bored. There are loads of activities and restaurants. Don’t like fine dining? Go for a diner burger at Stanley’s. Don’t like clay pigeon shooting? Go for a boat trip around the castle and island. If I had to give an example of the sheer ridiculousness of the standards on display here, it would be breakfast. A lot of luxury hotels have a sommelier for dinner. Ashford also has a “Smoothy” sommelier at breakfast to help try specific smoothies with your Irish fry. Yes, you read that right. What’s absolutely certain about your visit to Ashford Castle is that it will live up to all your expectations. And if you’ve booked this place, you will likely have very high expectations indeed. Faultless hotel. Enough said.

We had an absolutely fantastic trip, a much needed break from our two wonderful toddlers:). It was truly the unwinding escape we needed; amazing spa, friendly staff everywhere we went and delicious food. The boat trip was v interesting and well worth doing. Thank you for a fab trip :)

Ashford Castle is my favorite place to stay in Ireland. I have stayed there many times. The highlights of this trip were the walk with the dogs and James, and afternoon tea. We stayed for 3 nights. We arrived the day the big storm hit the country. We enjoyed the gothic feel that night of being in a castle with the wind and rain raging outside and the lights flickering inside. I thought the service and the food was not quite up to the standards I have come to expect from Ashford. Everyone we met was as usual very friendly, but the service seemed to be in low gear except for the two highlights I mentioned above. There were also a few areas showing a little wear like the obvious stain in the middle of the fabric headboard on one of the beds in our room . I don't think that is acceptable in a 5 star resort and I shuddered to think what may have made that stain. I have stayed in many places all over Ireland and Ashford is still my number one choice and I hope to have the opportunity to return.

The furniture in the room was shabby, the heavy bedspread was of a woven material which was very worn and looked as if it hadn’t been washed for some time! The food both in the Dungeon Room and casual dining was terrible… When we arrived we were early for booking in, so went to Mrs Tea’s, we sat outside in the rain which poured through the inadequate canopy. There is no option to eat inside. We would not stay at Ashford Castle again.

We stayed over night, had dinner with family that live nearby at George V, breakfast and afternoon tea. A walk around the grounds and into Cong. The sun was shining and the lake glistened. The place, food and staff in particular were wonderful. A very special place.

I actually have no words. Its Disneyland for adults on a more sophisticated level :) The location itself is phenomenal, the food is insane, the comfort and palatial surroundings.... But the icing on the cake is the staff. Without a shadow of a doubt, the friendliest, most helpful, most genuinely welcoming people I have ever experienced. From the moment you drive through those gates and are met there, its an out of this world experience

It is everything the reviews say and more. It is a beautiful hotel. The rooms appear to all be different and beautiful. The furnishings are amazing and walls are covered in fabric. Turn down service included a lit candle in the bathroom. Every meal was wonderful from breakfast to snacks in the tea room to dinner at the Dungeon and Cullens Cottage. We did the Ashford secrets walk which was wonderful and took us into Cong. The guide grew up playing on the land and in the town. His father was an arborist there and he knew all about the flora and fauna. He was delightful and informative. We also did a hawk walk with Tommy. It was one of the most wonderful experiences we had in Ireland. We were there during low season and often had rooms to ourselves. We learned to play snooker in the billiards room where with the exception of an occasional couple coming in we were often alone. We went to the theater and were the only ones in there. Maybe because it was The Quiet Man so too old for most. But since we had just walked the grounds and seen the town, it was magical for us. It was cool and misty and dream like.

We had the pleasure of staying overnight in Ashford Castle. It is such an historic building and it was to nice to think of all the people who have passed through the building since the 10th century. My parents came here for a few days on their honeymoon in 1948, so it was nice for me to follow in their footsteps. Our deluxe room was lovely, beautifully comfortable with lots of mod cons, we had relaxing drinks in the bar and then a wonderful meal in the restaurant which was really tasty - we had scallops for starters and turbot for main and they were both yummy. Breakfast is also a feast with a lovely touch of a smoothie choice to start off the morning. No hotel can operate without a wonderful team of staff who were so nice and friendly and most helpful to us all the time. This is a really special hotel and we would love to return some time soon to experience some of the outdoor activities.

We just got home from Ashford Castle, and we are already missing it! This hotel is in the top 2 or 3 best hotels we have stayed at in the world. The room was amazing with a gorgeous view of the lake, the restaurants and bar were fantastic, and the grounds and activities cannot be topped. The best thing I can say is that they anticipated our needs, before we even knew that we needed something! That is world class service. We will be going back for sure!
