The house takes its name from the ancient Omani town of Al Hamra named for its beautiful vernacular architecture. It has spacious rooms with tall ceilings to maximize the cool sea breeze, and it is set in an acre of woodland gardens with palms and many indigenous trees. With direct private access, it is only 100m from the spectacular Turtle Beach: voted top 10 in the world, it features 7.5km of coral white sand on the edge of the Indian Ocean. The beach is in a marine reserve and is home to several species of turtle which nest on the beach: the area inside the coral reef is protected by the Kenya Wildlife Service. Al Hamra is 1½ hours north of Mombasa by car and daily internal flights are available from Nairobi to Malindi, which is only 20 minutes away by car.
