Why would you stay in a 1960's motel when you can stay here in a beautiful 1910 villa. We had such a lovely time and a lot of that was due to our delightful host Doug who is one of the more delightful, helpful and entertaining gentlemen that you would meet on a days march. The rooms are beautifully furnished... More

We spent just one night in Dargaville but we really enjoyed our stay there and felt just like home. Since we were the only one there, we got an extra room for the kids which was very practical. Breakfast was huge and a special mention for the extra-big, extra-confortable bed. The house is very pretty and well decorated and the... More

We would like to endorse all the great reviews for this beautiful B&B. From a warm, genuine welcome accompanied by a cup of tea and a chat, to the beautifully restored house of which owner Doug is rightfully proud everything here made you instantly feel at home. Use of the internet, grab a beer from the fridge and great local... More

We had a delightful stay for two nights at the Lodge. The proprietor, Doug, was extremely hospitable, considerate and helpful. The lodge is a wonderful period residence which has been furnished with great care by Doug. We had the "full run" of the house and swimming pool area. Our bedroom (en suite) was beautifully furnished and all accessories needed were... More

Our final night in NZ was spent at Kauri House Lodge with its marvellous host, Doug. A home full of antiques and period furniture, my husband and I really appreciated Doug’s warm hospitality and the sense of being one of the family. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed, even down to lead crystal glasses on the vanity. Highly... More

Don't think of this as an overnight B & B, think of it as an experience that you won't forget. Doug's "magical mystery tour" of both Kauri House and the farm/native bush he tends just outside. Dargaville will stay with you for a long time and I guarantee you will be telling your friends about it long after you have... More

Stayed one night at Kauri House Lodge, a faithfully maintained Edwardian kauri villa. Everything perfectly matched right down to the silver butter knife with the breakfast bacon and eggs. Owner Doug's knowledge of New Zealand period furniture, bush conservation and farming was an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended.

My wife and I visited Doug Blaxall at the Kauri House Lodge in early March 2012, and the time spent there was a highpoint in a very nice New Zealand vacation. Our primary interest in this area was the ancient Kauri trees in Waipoua Kauri Forest, but there was much more to see. Dargaville is, in general, a great place... More

Amazing hospitality, wonderful accommodation, just a fantastic place. We only had one night here, but this was a very memorable stop. Our host, Doug, is a treasure trove of knowledge about practically all things New Zealand. One of the highlights was taking a walk through his private kauri forest reserve, and seeing a real forest "in action". The Lodge itself... More

This lodge is wonderfully unique. It has so many wonderful artifacts, interesting antiques...AND a delightful owner! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Doug is an excellent host, and it was fasinating to talk with him. The rooms were clean, comfortable and charming. Staying here, and meeting Doug, was one of the highlights of our 6 week New Zealand trip!
