If you are visiting porthmadogs three steam railways the Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland Railway and the Welsh Highland Heritage railway then this is the place for you to stay. If you take the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog and return, the timetable allows approximately only 1hr 45minutes at Porthmadog which means there is no a lot of time for lunch. A great place to stay if you are visiting the area. You can walk from the hotel to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. Called in on spec last Wednesday lunchtime. Saw that we could take our dog in. We had a lovely snack, cooked well and presented nicely; even a bowl of water for the pooch. The staff were very friendly without being intrusive. Loved the quaint spelling on the Cocktial [sic] list! A pleasant hour spent in great surroundings. Thank you.

I turned up at The Royal Sportsman not having booked a room - stupid boy! How lucky was I that they had one of my favourite rooms vacant - no 3 a garden room. The hotel is warm, welcoming and the staff are all very pleasant and genuinely ensure that guests are looked after. Well worth a visit.
