A beautiful building, in a beautiful place. The food was as good as I've had anywhere. Fell in love with the woodcarving, as did the king of Norway, who commissioned the chap to do up one of his palaces. Class act!

This is one of the remaining large, wooden hotels of the grand era in Norway. Elegant decor, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service, excellent restaurant. One of the lounges is filled with hand made furniture produced by a local man who's daugher gives historic tours of the area. Lift the bottom in one chair, and you can read how Kaiser... More

We stayed at Kviknes hotel during Balejazz early May last year. A hotel with a fantastic location and fantastic food and the festival had a great program. We will å be back in 2013. Thanks for a fantastic hospitality. Kind regards Kjell

My wife and I wanted a treat ourselves to a few nights' stay at Kviknes. At well over $300US/night along with the views an many glowing reviews both here and elsewhere we figured it is a safe bet. How wrong we have been! This hotel targets mass tourism. You will invariably see large buses packed with tourists. We had the... More

We (2 of us) also stayed in the old part, and we booked a suite for a rather high price. The room was old and not nice, and the corridors were old and depressing too. I won't even go into describing the new area. The dining room is extremely large, and it has a municipal feel. The quality of the... More

Upgraded to a room in the historic older part of the hotel with a balcony overlooking the fjord. Very peaceful and well away from the new section - 1970's concrete building. Buffet style breakfasts and dinner although can be a bit of a bun fight if the hotel has large coach parties in! Get in early!

I am staying here at the moment and can confirm the four basic things other reviewers have said. 1. The older history part of the hotel is quaint and charming, with wonderful lobby areas. The rooms are not spectacular, but they are fine and the bathrooms are updated. 2. The "new" hotel looks like it was dropped in from a... More

OK, I read the reviews and made sure to book a room in the old part, the original hotel. I recommend calling the hotel in advance and getting a room in the old part. Our room had a direct water view and balcony. The room itself was old world charm but had been updated in the bathroom etc. It wasn't... More

The hotel is in a prime location with views of the stunning fjord in front and mountains close behind, still with some snow on them. On a clear sunny day sitting by the water, watching the occasional boats, or porpoises surfacing, its a wonderful spot. Several artists have based themselves here over the years as the light is said to... More

The Kviknes Hotel is simply very, very tired and in desperate need of renovation. Unless you hear that renovations have been undertaken, I would AVOID this hotel. If you can't find a better option in Balestrand, it might be advisable to stay in another town along the Søgnefjord and just skip Balestrand altogether. (There aren't many dining options either in...
