The location of this place is fantastic; but that's the inherent problem with this place because if there was any reasonable competition it would fail. The check-in was fine and the staff helpful. We had a room with a bathroom, but the water supply was hopeless; furnishings were basic and shabby. The breakfast was good, but the evening meals awful.... More

CelticRambler here.... With another California explanation that may be helpful. The Wawona Hotel is the kind of rustic lodge that may have welcomed Teddy Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover. I loved the place when I was a kid. Very few changes. During my last visit, a wonderful entertainer brought the old-timers together and we sang Yosemite campfire songs from fifty years... More

My husband & I stayed at the Wawona for 4 nights in December to celebrate his birthday. We stayed in a queen room with a bath, which was much nicer and more spacious than I expected. We were hoping for a stay where we could really get away - no phone, no email, no tv, etc - and do a... More

The Wawona Hotel is about one hour from Yosemite Valley. If you want to avoid the crowds in Yosemite VIllage but still want to go there during your stay, the Wawona is the right place for you. However, don't expect anything fancy. The Wawona is pretty basic. If you want less noise, ask for a room in the main hotel... More

Late review - stayed there first week Oct. Decided to stop for 1 night on the way to the Valley Floor. Strictly a historical experience, since nothing has been remodeled (accumulated coats of paint don't count) since its glory days. Which, in all fairness, is what the place is all about. In summary, everything written below is true - good... More

I don't mind roughing it but no heat? We were at the end of the line so to speak for heat, and with the temperatures and the rain, it was miserable. I went to the front desk 3 times to talk to them about heat, and was told they were working on it but it didn't matter because the heat... More

Our first night was in the annex on the 1st floor next to the sun room. No bath but it did have a sink. The room was nice, but like others have said the walls are paper thin, and we heard all of the sounds from the next room which had it's own bathroom. The outside walls all equally thin... More

We stayed at the historic Wowona Hotel during the last week of October. The hotel consists of buildings with different room/bath options. Our building, the Clark Cottage, dates back to 1876 and had bathrooms with tub/showers. The room was very quaint with Victorian style furnishings. It was clean and the rooms were warm at night, although it had not gotten... More

Our experience at the Wawona was very enjoyable. But you need to know what your signing on for before you make reservations! It is an historic old hotel located near the south entrance to the Park, miles form busy Yosemite Valley. The majority of the rooms are located in the Annex, which I believe was built around 1915. The only... More

Just stayed at historic Wawona Hotel at the Mariposa Grove (south) entrance to Yosemite, and I loved it. Last time I stayed here was July of 1991 with my cousin from England, we saw the Solar Eclipse from telescopes at Glacier Point that trip. The same man still plays the piano at night in the parlor as then. This trip... More
