We enjoyed our stay in July 2012 at Lake Hotel. We were in the main hotel in an annex - not the cabins. We appreciated the history of the lodge but it is in need of some TLC. The hotel is fairly clean and comfortable, but worn. Chose this hotel for the location. It is a great home base for... More

The Lake Hotel is BEAUTIFUL and often gets overlooked because of the popularity of the Old Faithful Area. This restored hotel has small rooms but BEAUTIFUL views of Lake Yellowstone. Very picturesque. A Hotel History tour is offered (almost) daily depending on the time of year. The dining room is the prettiest and has the best menu of any sit-down... More

Let's start with some clarifications. I used to work in the park and I have stayed in every lodging location there and know a lot of details about the place. If you want a spa/resort hotel experience go to a place that specializes in that. Yellowstone National Park is rustic. Most of the accommodations in the park are rustic and... More

checking in was fine front desk girls very polite. We'd booked a cabin which I knew were old but that wasn't a problem. On entering the cabin we saw the carpet had about ten black stains on it which looked like oil two were quite large. When we complained we were given another cabin which was just as bad. We... More

We stayed here a night while walking across America, on The Great American Walkabout. They gave us a special guest room, that they usually reserve for employees. It was a spacious two bed room layout, which was great since there were three of us. The place was very charming, it seemed kind of old fashioned, and in the lobby I... More

Our stay in 2002 it was perfection. Attention to every detail. Our stay , for our anniversary, in July 2012 was the opposite .. dirt and bird poop all over the siding . The view from our dinning room window was bird poop running down the dirty white columns .. The whole place was in shabby maintenance. The maintenance manager... More

As other reviewers make clear, if you're looking for modern luxury, you may want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for location and history, it doesn't get much better than this. We found our room and the hotel in general very clean and staff helpful. Extras in the room like custom soaps were a nice touch. The piano music... More

Arrived from the Uk with great expectations. However, we were soon sadly, very disappointed by the drab exterior and the confused layout of the entrances.( entry is via the rear ) Inside the lobby there was a distinct smell of cooked fish and the sound of a tired old piano. Once inside our room I tried to open the window... More

First things first- the hotel and cabins are rustic; you are, after all, smack dab in the middle of Yellowstone National park. Although the hotel could use a moderate makeover (peeling paint in various places, bird nests in the rafters, etc); those things that REALLY matter (room cleanliness, adequate amenities, price) were all well within my expectations. As far as... More

...we decided to get out of there as soon as possible. If we thought we had any other options close by, we would have wasted our $260 that we spent on the hotel, and gone somewhere else. This was the worst hotel I have ever been in, with the second worst being a national chain on Virginia Beach that gave... More
