I would probably stay there again. It's kind of a funky hotel, but nice and clean.
I checked in here with my wife 11 month old son, we get to the room and from the parking lot we could hear someone screaming and banging things, we got into the room and realized it was coming from right above us, it was 12am by this time. My wife was breastfeeding our son and I called the office to politely ask if he could do anything about the noise, he acted like he had no idea what I was even saying and made me repeat my self 5 or 6 times. he comes to our door as soon as I opened it he starts giving me an attitude and asking what MY problem is! I explain the situation again and he say I don't hear anything, what's your problem! continues to speak to me rudely. I say "okay thanks" and shut the door, he knocks again! This time pushing his way into our room! With my shirtless wife feeding our son, he starts screaming that we have to get out and he'll refund us! I tell okay fine, give us 5 minutes to put our clothes on and get our bags out, he refuses to leave! I tell him "please! My wife is feeding my son, we'll be out in 5 minutes!" He still won't leave, just keeps saying get out! Go! Get out! After we leave the room, we call the booking agency to tell what happpened and to arrange a refund, he tells them we just left on our own! And refuses to refund our payment, then he comes out to our car swearing at us and telling us to get off the property. What a night!
When I checked in, I questioned the reservation fee, as my booking company told me to do at check in. I wanted to check with the booking co. because the manager was going to charge it. While I called and was trying to listen to the phone menu, the manager said to me that I was very cheap and said he wanted me to cancel my reservation because he would make more money on someone else. As I talked to a live person on the phone, he raised his voice and aggressively repeated a few times he would cancel my reservation, waving hand gestures and all. The booking co. was no help and I had to walk the angry manager back from the ledge so we could keep our room. I was never rude or loud. I simply said I needed to call the company to ask about the issue. His reaction was unbelievable and unnecessary. On the plus side, the housekeeping did well and the room was clean. Just not the blanket covers. If you don’t like body support when you sleep, the super soft mattresses will cradle you like a hammock.
Oh! One tip to make your stay better: bring roach spray or traps so you can fend off the roaches, and of course, don’t leave your food out or they’ll help themselves.
Another tip! If you don’t want to hear noise from upstairs guests, bring the earplugs on. Ceilings aren’t made of brick. If you’re hoping to avoid the historic trend of negative experiences with the front desk/manager reported by your fellow travelers, roll the dice. I was hoping I would avoid it too, but it didn’t take much to trigger the guy into shouts and threats.
The doors and locks don't really feel like they would hold anyone outside. Oh, and they use actual keys. No magnetic cards or anything like that.
I booked this without much research as they had a cheap offer online. It was ok, but could be even a bit more cheaper for the quality. Now it's probably just under the what ever is the next lowest price.
And because it's an old place it doesn't keep sounds out. The 77 just next to the motel is quite busy late to the nigh.
I booked the room by calling as we were traveling and my husband was ill. We waited for the room to be cleaned thinking it would be ok. The smell was so strong we walked in and out and asked for our money back which they refused. We did not stay and were out our money!!!
The motel is older but looks like it has been updated somewhat recently with new tile in the bathroom, HD-TV (free cable including HBO and ESPN). Free WiFi (which I didn't try) and an outdoor pool that looked very clean (the pool is right next to the highway, so might be a bit noisy -- didn't go swimming as it was raining). The in-wall A/C unit worked and was fairly quiet as these types of units go (seemed newer than others I've seen in similarly priced places). The walls between the rooms (at least on the ground floor) are made of BRICK! We heard nothing from the rooms on either side (I know they were occupied), even in the morning with flushes and showers. The carpet is showing signs of age, but my bare feet felt comfortable on it (some older motels seem to use something that makes my feet itch or feel burned - not here).
I was a bit skeptical after reading the other reviews, but we had a very nice experience. Neither English or Spanish is the proprietor's first language, so a language barrier could have let to other's less-than-optimal experiences. We had no problem. We even went back late morning because we left a phone charger in the room and they accommodated is with no problem (phone charger found!).
SO, FOR-THE-PRICE, this was an excellent experience. We'll go here again if we're in that area of town.
"try not to check in late. When I checked in around 11 o'clock the night of her was kind of surly."Read full review
