For those of you familiar with National Park accommodation, this venue is similar to most of the others - really just a place to sleep. You pay for the convenience of being in a beautiful National Park and can rise early and see many wild animals and birds.

And my 4 star rating is based heavily on the location. As others have noted, this is the only motel in the park. Staying here will save you about 45 min getting to the actual cliff dwelling areas each day. However, be aware that you will NOT be staying in the building shown on the Far View Lodge's web page.... Don't expect luxury lodging. The rooms are adequate motel-style rooms, with an open lav and small toilet tub/shower room. Our room had a nice vista. Can't comment on the through-the-wall heat/AC, because we didn't need either. Housekeeping OK. Staff at the lodge office was helpful and friendly. Sparse cell phone service and limited Wi-Fi at the lodge center.

When visiting Mesa Verde this is the most convenient place to stay. Ask for "history with mystery" pkg. You get awesome front lodge rooms with huge view of the stars in the sky when you sleep in your beds at nite! it is a smaller room, but clean and beds are comfortable!
