Gaslamp Quarter location is ideal; not far from Petco Park and the harbor. My room (1026) was comfortable, quiet, with quirky decor and decent (though not spectacular) view. As a newly joined Kimpton rewards member, the lights were on in my room when I arrived, along with a personal note from the manager and a coupon for $10 off anything... More

I'm quite particular concerning hotels but was not at all disappointed at Hotel Solamar. The bed was wonderful, room was perfect, the TV was bigger than some and the dinner we ordered from room service was great. The morning coffee in the lobby is a nice touch. Great location for walking but parking is $40 per night. More

Quiet hotel in the middle of town. Good clean rooms, nice bar, lobby and swimming pool. Great breakfast. Not far from places of tourist interest. More

Well located for the Gaslamp District, the hotel had decent sized and quiet rooms at good prices. Staff very helpful but valet parking expensive; save 35% by parking in the lot directly opposite the hotel More

Want to know how I know this? Our room was facing Bub's and apparently over top some dumpsters that were emptied very early in the morning. We were unable to use the pool for a night because it was booked for a private party. As a guest coming from Anchorage, not being able to use the pool was a big... More

Dear Alaska Guest – Thanks for taking time to share your comments – this feedback is important and helps us better understand each guests experience. I am sorry about the issue with dumpsters that were recently staged by our hotel for a 10 day project for a neighboring business which has since been completed; this was indeed inconvenient and not... We have stayed in many of the Hotels in downtown San Diego over the years, from the Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, Envy, Hilton, etc. This by far was the worst experience so far of any of our stays. We have received better customer service at a Holiday Inn express off the Freeway in Madera, Ca then we have here. This was... More

Dear Hawaii Traveler – We are very sorry to see that your Solamar experience was not top notch. Spa services are currently booked through a third party and it appears that the ball was dropped in confirming services; unacceptable. We are actually working with a local spa to launch new services in March that will be more unique to Solamar,... More

Stayed here for 2nights business travel. Good location, nice rooms. Major downside was the fitness center was under renovation and in a temporary location with one lamp for the whole room. So at 6am, it was so dark that you couldn't read and there were no tvs. Hopefully this is a temporary situation. I had a rental car for work... More

Hello to our Valued KIT Guest – And thanks for choosing the Solamar and our great location. Yes the fitness center was temporary during your stay as we have been busy with an expansion project – our larger center with a wall of windows facing the pool opens February 8, 2012 – I am sorry for the inconvenience during your... I stayed here in December. The hotel was nice enough, I guess. Looking at other people's reviews is making me think that I should have paid for an upgraded room and maybe I would have had more of a luxury experience. As it was, I didn't think that I got a really good value for the cost of staying there.... More

Dear Boston Guest; I am happy that our lobby was a gem during your December stay but I am sorry that you did not feel more comfortable – that is our main goal. As a single traveler we would hope that you might also have taken advantage of our complimentary hosted evening wine hour reception intended to be the ideal... More

This was the first hotel we stayed in on our first trip to the States, so will always be very special. Stayed on one of the upper animal free floors looking down on the pool. A nice room although the bathroom was quite small. Loved the location in the Gaslamp quarter with lots of restaurants, close to Petco Park where... More

Dear Down Hill Skier! Looks like Petco Ballpark nearby wasn’t the only thing that hit it “out of the park” – thank you for the great compliments on our hotel and location. You took advantage of one of my favorite “locals” treats which is a trip across the bay to Coronado. I love that 15 minute ride for a completely... More

My husband and I checked into Hotel Solamar in San Diego a few days before Christmas for two nights away from the craziness and kids. It's located in a pretty cool area of San Diego's Gaslamp district, near Petco Park. We checked in and wandered the shops along the streets leading to Horton Plaza then finished our shopping at the... More

Dear Runner Girl – A big thank you for spending part of your holidays at the Solamar with our fabulous location adjacent to the Gaslamp and East Village. We are indeed a bit funky by intention as our décor is meant to be unique and different from entry to lobby to guest room but I will say you are absolutely... More
