It was a nice customer friendly hotel. You feel old style European hotel’s setup with some wood details. I needed a support for some arrengements before I arrive and they supported very well. Welcome and security also was nice, specially thanking Janice and other lady welcomed me for quick check in. Very good for budget thinkers looking for a well managed facility. Room and bath cleanup was ok. And finally location for absolutely nice for day and night point of interests

This was the cheapest non hostel, private room hotel I could find in San Francisco. It's much better than other reviews suggest. I was pleasantly surprised. Room quite modern looking (better than the photos, off white wooden flooring) Clean. No bad smell at all. I stayed in a single room that was small, but I've stayed in smaller in Times Square NYC before so no big deal. Single bed was on the big side for a single. Very comfy. I slept so good. Cleaners never came but I was only there 2 nights. The shared bathroom was in good condition. I didn't see one other guest in my 2 nights there. Just some food delivery people dropping to reception. The local area isn't bad. I only see a couple of dodgy people outside. It's in Chinatown which isn't a bad area. Reception has CCTV and a night security guard. Honestly, if you are a solo traveller here you'll feel safe. Little donut/cafe/coffee shop next door to get breakfast. 20 minute walk to Pier 33 (Alcatraz), 1.5 hour walk to Golden Gate Bridge (or $17 Uber). I'm happy I found this place, I need my own privacy when travelling and this was perfect. I'd recommend for solo travellers for sure. Oh and dead silent of a night. I'm writing this from a motel in Monterey and the noise here made me appreciate just how quiet Hotel North Beach was. Just don't expect luxury but honestly, it's not a dump. It's a clean room of your own, safe and quiet. I've given it a 4 not a 5 because it's not perfect but certainly adequate.

First, be warned all the bathrooms are shared down the hall. But the place is super convenient for walking around the city. Bummer they don’t have weekly rates anymore. Very near to Chinatown and downtown. Dunno what else to say, it’s cool and historic

Unfortunately after this current visit I did have to write a negative review. The odyssey started with me attempting to check into the hotel at 11:30PM with a bunch of luggage and getting turned away at the door. Great! San Francisco is the perfect city to sight see during the middle of the night. *sarcasm* The next day I attempted to book a room with the advertised rate. Upon attempting to check in the following day the woman working the desk (Lori) informed me that the reservation was booked for two weeks out and if I wanted to get a room for that day I would have to pay double the price that was advertised. Despite me showing her the current rate she refused to honor the lower rate. To make matters worse she was extremely rude and made the entire conversation unpleasant. I decided to speak with the woman in charge of the hotel the following day. Who also refused to honor the advertised rate. This coming on the heels of the first time I stayed at the location where I simply told her that this was the rate I saw after a quick confirmation she honored the advertised rate. I was honestly shocked and disappointed since she was extremely nice the first time I had decided to stay at the location. The previous visit was much more pleasant as the room was nice had a TV that wasn't from the 1950's, bug free and had decent appliances. This time however the room looks like the price suggests. Other than that the location is nice near a historic place in United States history and for the most part its quiet.

We arrived and visited our room. As my friend and me opend the door we saw that there was just one small bed. Down at the reception i mentionend, that i booked a room for two people. The guy told us, that they only have rooms with one bed. in the beginning he was quite resistant and for him that seemed to be no problem. It was a sinlge bed, so a really small one. After a few minutes he offered another room with a bit a bigger bed, but still not comfortable for two people. The room smell horrible and the bathrooms where dirty. The only positiv point is, that it is perfectly located. Nevertheless i'll never go again to north beach.

If you have limited budget, then North Beach hotel is right for you. The hotel is at the city center, close to transAmerica tower and other attractions. The location is quite accessible, the rooms are small but clean and well kept, service is OK. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, since there were lots of diners all around us. We stayed for 3 nights and evey morning we had breakfast at a different place and was always nice. The biggest advantage of the hotel is the reasonable rates, considering you are at the downtown of one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Was a little concerned about this place since bathrooms are in the hall and judging by reviews. However, I should know better from past experience that it's best to keep an open mind and not trust the opinions of ill-informed reviewers who love to complain. It was much better than I thought. Booked this hotel on Orbitz for one Saturday night at a very good rate. Very well-located in vibrant North Beach, near Chinatown, about a 10 minute walk to the Ferry Terminal, two blocks from the Transamerica building. It's a reasonable walk to many attractions and a bus to Fishermans Wharf passes every few minutes. There are countless dining options of every kind in a stone's throw including some very charming sidewalk cafes. There are some strip clubs nearby too but if that's not your thing, just avoid them because there are many very desirable places to drink or dine. It's an old building. I entered the large lobby which featured several couches, a computer desk and display case with memorabilia on the hotel and area. Desk clerk was reasonably friendly and checked me in fast. I took the large, modern elevator to the fourth floor. The hallways are long and darkish, reminding you of a place where Michael Douglas and Karl Malden might have kicked in a door or two. That said, the room was fine and I didn't encounter any strange clientele. Room had two full beds, each with four pillows, table, chair and lamp, fridge and microwave, small dresser, flat-screen TV, sink and closet. There were two large towels, two wash clothes, two hand towels, cups, soap bars and small shampoo tubes. There was a light on the ceiling and wifi worked perfectly. I streamed video for hours with no problem. There is an old radiator but no cooling of any kind so I doubt I'd stay here in the warmer months. Room was comfy and clean. I anticipated it being noisy from outside and brought a small fan that I normally use anyway. There were occasional police sirens, horns honking and one point late where music from a nearby club had woke me up. but the place is a bit removed from the busiest area and actually a little quieter that I expected. If you're a light sleeper, perhaps ask for a back room or not choose this hotel. Finally, I counted about six individual bathrooms on my floor, each with toilet sink and shower. All that I looked at were pretty clean and the number proved more than adequate to serve the floor's guests, at least when I was there. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but just be aware, it's not a chain but an older property lacking certain amenities that might be important to you.

I paid 30 bucks/night which is a true bargain in SFO. I challenge anyone to find a cheaper 2-star hotel in city center. Yes - everything sucks about this hotel except the wifi and the price. If u can stand the smell and disgusring carpets u will survive. Bring a pair or of flipflops.
