I just got back from 3 days at the Doe Bay Resort & Retreat on Orcas Island. It was magical. After doing a little research, I discovered they offer short term service learning retreats. You work in the Garden at Doe Bay and in exchange get a campsite or a bed in the hostel. They also have domes, yurts and... More

This is not where you go when you want room service or luxury bedding. This is where you go when you want to get away from civilization and want to do something between camping out and staying in a hotel. We stayed in a cute little cabin on the edge of a meadow, just a 5 minute walk from the... More

We only used the soaking tubs, and they were pretty cool. It was recommended that we go at night, which seems silly since the view is breathtaking during the day. Clean, beautiful, but pretty small. There were 8 of us in one of the two tubs and it was full. $15/person if you aren't staying there which is super overpriced... More

We spent 2 delightful nights here and we highly recommend it! Everything exceeded our expectations. The office/gift shop has amazingly unique and wonderful gifts and food (freshly- baked coconut chocolate chip cookies! Hand-made woolen hats from Nepal! Art supplies!) and the staff are warm & friendly. We had dinner in the Doe Bay Cafe: the lovage-seed noodles with locally-foraged morels... More

Weekending on Orcas Island and experienced the new Chef at the Doe Bay Cafe - serving up a wonderful plate of local cuisine. Each plate was a unique treat to the palate. Given this was the chef's first weekend, I expected some snafu's - frankly things worked out well. Wait staff and kitchen staff coordinated well. Fresh herbs and veggies... More

This is an amazingly beautiful setting that is sadly ruined by indifferent and unpleasant staff. I literally stood at the entrance to the cafe for 10 minutes without one person even acknowledging my presence, much less asking if they could help me. I finally had to ask a patron where the staff was and he informed me that he thought... More

We stayed in a cabin that had no water but was near the showers and kitchen. I knew what I was getting us into but still I would recommend a cabin or cottage that has water. The restaurant was excellent but don't come to Orcas Island if you want reliable internet. I enjoyed my stay here but it is a... More

The restaurant is quaint, the service is impeccable, and the bittersweet chocolate caramel tart is the best dessert I have had the pleasure of eating. The scallops were cooked to perfection, great wine selection, and the view is breathtaking. Enjoy!

Doe Bay Resort really has it all, except perhaps luxurious accommodations - but then again, it depends on how you define luxury. For me, lux = being on a glorious bay with hot tubs, decks, lawn chairs enjoying the view; having an easily accessible cup of coffee, and a great restaurant. Beats stuffy hotels with food that did not come... More

I read the last reviewer's statements thinking, "well yeah!" -- Doe Bay is pretty much a rustic collection of yurts, cabins, and tent sites built into a cliffside area in such a way as to maintain the feeling of being away from everything and to not distract from the natural beauty of the surroundings. If you can't take the errant... More
