It might seem expensive at first glance, but the fact that the stay includes a full continental breakfast and a three course dinner, it’s really good value for money. It’s a nice clean room with a fantastic shower. We picked this place because the meals were included, so after a long day outside exploring the Grampians, it saved us driving... More

This is the second time that we have stayed at Mountain Grand Guest House and it won't be that last. We stayed this time for a short break and though the weather was a bit wet and cold, it was anything but that at the guest house. The room was warm and cosy and the host, Don was very helpful... Only wanted to book for Saturday night, however Don told us it was a 2 night minimum and that most of the Halls Gap accommodation was the same. He told us that there was only one room left, we booked it as we had to get up early on Sunday morning to participate in the 6km walk. When we arrived... More

Although I'd pre-booked and paid, my first impression was to try elsewhere. The place was deserted when I arrived, and I had to ring the bell multiple times before someone (I found out later that it was tony, but he didn't introduct himself at the time) let me in. The room I had was clean which was the only reason... More

Visited on a whim. We were looking for a change to a motel stay and it didn't disappoint. Comfortable bed. Don't be put off by the slightly tired exterior. Evening meal was delicious ( we had the bed/dinner/breakfast package). If you are keen on jazz music you are at the right place. A wonderful hotel to relax in after a... More

Stayed over the Easter weekend with my best friend. Pros are the location and the value for money. It's on Main st, Halls Gap and easy walking distance to all the stores in town. Was good to have breakfast and dinner included in the rate, however the limited serving times can be a little restrictive. It seemed like there weren't... More

We really enjoyed the quiet relaxed atmosphere, the Jazz music was great and most of all the service. Very friendly and great to chat with. Our friend visiting from the US thoroughly enjoyed his stay, especially watching all (30+) kangaroos hopping by. The rooms were nicely decorated and up to date. The location also made it convenient to walk to... More

We had no booking n and we were late around 6pm, we were so relieve they still have plenty of rooms. Very good value on money, wooden heritage building, 3 communal living rooms with large screen TV. The courtyard is great with a romantic live jazz music in balmy night. Food from the cafe/restaurant downstairs is superb compare to what... More

This booking was a last minute one for three days in between Xmas and New Year. We decided to go a bit more up market than a motel and as pretty much everything else was booked out or overly expensive we thought this sounded good value. Our booking included breakfast and 3 course dinner each day. Its always a bit... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This is one of country Victoria’s last remaining traditional Guesthouses, now refurbished into a very comfortable small hotel in the heart of Halls Gap. With its balconies and unique facade, the Mountain Grand is a delightful place to call home after a big day exploring the Grampians. "The Balconies" Restaurant & "Cafe Grand" are so popular, especially on Saturday nights with mellow 30s to 80s live music - "the best music of all time" performed by a selected rotating parade of professional musicians. There are seven small & cozy guest bedrooms with fresh decor and en-suite bathrooms - 3 large rooms, some with spas. No pretentious 5 star luxury, just homely 3.5 star country comfort with wood fire sitting rooms, big screen TVs and club/cocktail bar. The whole property has WiFi. Full breakfasts and 3 course dinners are included in the tariff. Dinners are 3 courses of full choice of menu. Guests with special dietary needs are looked after by our caring chef. Breakfasts comprise an extensive buffet followed by individually cooked offerings. All are enjoyed in our restaurant "The Balconies" and the "Cafe Grand." The Indulgence Getaway also includes gourmet picnic lunches which are extremely popular for bushwalkers who are going to be in the mountains all day. On their return they are treated to our Chef's freshly baked afternoon teas. Guests will be well looked after by our friendly staff & will find enjoyment (to add to the dining experience) relaxing in the various lounge areas with service from the licensed club bar. ... more   less
