We stated the Lucan Spa for two nights in early June, two adults and two children in the family room.

The family room was relatively compact but was adequate for a two night stay.

The was some noise from the nearby M4 motorway but the hotel has installed an additional glazing unit inside the window to limit this noise somewhat .
Perhaps a timber sound shield erected on the inside of the northern boundary of the hotel would limit sound further.

The beds were pretty comfortable and the room servicing was good.

We ate in the hotel on both nights the service provided by the hotel staff in the bar bistro area was very good. The quality the food was also good.

We ate breakfast both mornings in the bistro: quality of the food and service was again of a good standard .

Parking was convenient and on premises.

Overall the package on offer provided reasonable value for money considering its proximity to Dublin and if we were offered similar value in the future we would return.

Thanks to the staff of the Lucan spa hotel we would award 3.25 stars if that was possible as it is a little above a three star standard.

The grounds were lovely with nearby wooded area suitable for short walks.

While attending an event in nearby Celbridge, I stayed here over a weekend. The hotel is located in a semi-rural setting with extensive grounds, and is quite imposing from the outside.

Rooms are spacious, comfortable, well equipped, and serviced daily to a high standard of cleanliness. All expected facilities were supplied. Restaurant and bar prices tend to be somewhat expensive, though perhaps no more so than many similar establishments nowadays.

Overall, I enjoyed a very pleasant two night stay.

Very disappointed with this hotel, it's in need of a major makeover. We stayed in a family room which was spacious but they only provided 3 cups when the room sleeps 4, there is also no safe or fridge in the rooms. The bathroom is tiny and they have squeezed the toilet in between a wall and the shower which made it very difficult to use. We ate in the hotel bar on our first evening and food was tasty and portion sizes were good however the experience was let down by the fact that there were chunks of wallpaper missing from the walls! The man serving breakfast the first morning was unhelpful, rude and didn't explain anything to us regarding seating etc and we had to chase down another member of staff before we could get any tea for our table, the ladies working on the second day were a lot friendlier and helpful but on both occasions there was hardly any food available even though it was only 9am. There were no continental breakfast items available on our second morning and both my teenagers had to make do with toast instead. I would also avoid the lift as it sounds like it's about to fall apart, it made loud banging noises and after my first experience I was too scared to use it again which is not ideal as I am disabled and have problems using stairs.

Myself and friend booked a night stay here for a treat and catch up. We were left very disappointed, I don't blame the staff as they can only work with what's given to them. Room is very dated to which I had expected as many people told me but I didn't expect to sleep on a very lumpy squeeky bed. Room was semi clean, more attention is required on the touch points in the room. The tea and coffee holder was disgusting and tv remote we had to clean ourselves. The cover for the light in bathroom should be removed to take out all the dead bugs/flies in it. We had booked the Summer Vibes package, we got to the bar (lovely outdoor area) and were told there was a wedding on so couldn't get cocktails but then when advised was included in our package we could get one. Unfortunately they didn't have the ingredients to make their signature cocktail. Food was basic, we both ordered medium steak and it came out in a pool of blood and knife lying in it, they didn't have the dessert we wanted so settled on strawberry cheesecake which was okay. They bar had no wine list available so the waiter fair play went of and wrote them down on paper so he could help us make a decision. The hotel is in a great location but just needs more attention paid on updating rooms and improving food quality.

The is hotel is reasonably priced- that is one of the few good things about this place. I requested when booking about 2 months before hand could i have a room with a bath. I had driven a good few hours that day aswell as been at work for the rest so a bath was something i was looking forward too, but when walked in realized i had been given a tiny room with no bath. There was none available when i queried it with reception but would have been nice to have been told before i arrived. Also the window had been left open in my room ( on the coldest day of the year ) and was what i think right above the kitchen so smelled like a deep fat fryer. Overall room was pretty basic, looked clean . Half the channel's didn't work on the TV. There was no mention of WIFI when checked in nor anything came up when searched on my phone. Breakfast was grand, did the job. Was very disappointed, staying was a test as in 2023 i will be requiring to stay up a lot for my work, and was testing this hotel to see if it was suitable. But i didn't think so. hotel badly needs modernizing and fixing basic housekeeping issues( see a few photos of my room)

The hotel has a very poor opinion of what good service is, people complaining about how cold their meal was so I stated to the waitress that I wanted mine hot but still came out on a cold plate. The room had one part used roll of toilet roll and no glasses in en-suite for dentures or even stand a toothbrush in. Hotel dated and uncaring will not be back.

The outside building is really beautiful and the hotel keeps a few nice features inside. The bar food was nice.
Unfortunately the reception staff we met, a girl called Abby, was unhelpful to say the least. We arrived at 3pm to check in and had to pay the full amount of our 3 night stay before we were given directions to our room. The room turned out extremely small, above the kitchen with a window facing the vents… the smell and sound was overpowering. I went down and asked Abby for another room, which she just did not want to do. I asked her if we could order take away sandwiches for lunch the next day, which was not possible. Breakfast Sunday morning started at 8am and since we had to leave earlier she offered continental breakfast at 7.30am. This turned out to be a bowl of corn flakes and a slice of toast in the reception area, no discount was offered. We were with a group of friends and Saturday evening we had a good dinner in the bar. We realised that we had gone up to our room without paying for our dinner and in the morning when we went to reception to pay they had taken the liberty to charge our dinner to our friends card! The water in the shower was tepid in the morning 3 days in a row and the bathroom was so small you could hardly get into the shower as the toilet and shower doors blocked the way. I would rate this hotel as one of the worst we have ever stayed in… such a pity because it really has potential ..

Dear Isabelle, I hope you are well. Many thanks for your review and subsequent email sent to the hotel a few days later. I am sorry to hear your experience of the hotel did not meet our expectations that we set in the hotel. I am sorry you feel you are mistreated by our staff during your stay. I note you were unhappy with your bedroom and requested a change. Unfortunately, we were fully booked up and had no other suitable room in which to offer to you. I don’t believe this is an example of Abby’s “unhelpfulness” – merely it was the limitation on having a full hotel during the time period of your stay. It is our policy to take payment on check-in to the hotel or, in the case where guests request to open an account to charge services to their room during their stay, process a pre-authorisation to the value of a stay. This policy is outlined in our terms and conditions in which you would have ticked in agreement when making your reservation back in February. Typically a receptionist will give directions to guests to their assigned bedrooms at the final part of the check-in process since studies show it is at this time where guests are more likely to be taking this information in. There is a lot of information passed onto guests during the check-in process (for example, the times of breakfasts!) and it is common for guests not to be fully focused when such information is being discussed and mishear or forget such information within a very short period. This is the reason why directions to bedrooms are left as one of the final pieces of communication during check-in. We are puzzled as to the issue taken with this. I am unsure as to why we were unable to provide a takeaway sandwich for lunch. This is particularly disappointing for us to read, as we pride ourselves in being able to facilitate requests from our guests as best we can. Again, though, I don’t believe this is a slight on Abby directly, as she would have passed this request to our kitchen team who ultimately would have made any decision. I will, however, investigate this further in an effort to shed more light on this. As a final comment on my colleague Abby, I do feel your review is particularly unfair to her. Her inability to assist you (due to the reasons outlined above) seem to be misconstrued as “unhelpfulness” and mistreatment, whereas the truth falls short of this assessment. Staff are human beings too, and I feel it’s my duty to give her point of view to any review that could damage the self-belief and confidence of any young professional making a career for themselves. Moving forward from this, I am sorry to read of apparent issues with the hot water in your ensuite shower. I would be eager to know if you had reported this during your stay to a member of staff to check? While we have yet to encounter this issue with the shower in your room since your stay, we will continue to monitor this on a daily basis to ensure this problem does not occur again. From your description of your continental breakfasts, it would suggest a member of our staff did not take an order off you for breakfast. This would normally be the procedure for early risers to ensure they are provided with their preferred dishes/options for breakfast. I apologise for this and will implement further training in this area immediately. We apologise for the error in which your friends were charged the value of your meal on Saturday. Unfortunately, my colleague on that evening made the (incorrect) assumption that your party was all together and when seeing you vacate the table, assumed your friends were settling the overall bill. We apologise for this error. However, again, I would suggest reflection needs to be taken here. In your review, you admit you realised you hadn’t paid your food bill when you retired to your room that evening. However, rather than attempt to contact reception or any member of staff, you simply left it until the morning. It’s not too difficult to see how this mistake occurred, and indeed, would be one that could easily have been rectified in the morning on check-out at your request. Overall, while there are areas that need addressing as outlined in your review, we do feel some of the issues outlined in your review are unfair, exaggerated or where responsibility lies elsewhere. Personally, I take reviews very seriously, but I also take the wellbeing of all our management and staff very serious too. Unfortunately, I do believe your review crosses some borders in the areas mentioned. As mentioned, we will address the areas discussed in your review and seek correction in those areas as we offer honest self-assessment. My only hope is my reply here delivers a similar impact. Take care. Kind Regards, Ulick Colgan, Sales and Marketing Manager, Lucan Spa Hotel.

Great location and the staff are friendly enough but the hotel is in some serious need of attention. Everything is very dated and worn, the lift scared the life out of me. The rooms are also very dated. The shower leaked, the toilet wasn’t attached to the wall properly and the cleaning was a bit hit and miss. With the same, very few, breakfast options we spent additional money going out for breakfast after a few days to break the boredom. But the staff and location made it a better experience, without those my review would have been worse!

I have been in Dublin for business and I found this place a very interesting and comfortable accommodation which I extremely recommend to any body. the staff are really respectful and friendly. Breakfast is not excellent but fair value for money I could say. and the lobby was not very handy as the heaters there where not working. Parking is very convenient and you will always have a place to put your car.

To whom it may concern,

I stayed in the spa on Sunday the 8th of January, and my experience at this hotel was the worst experience in any hotel ever! I went down here for a small birthday gathering with some family and was completely embarrassed and taken back by the rudeness and unprofessional behaviour of the staff and manager.
I sat in the bar area with my family, eating a few pringles as i dont drink. I was enjoying the company of my family and friends who were drinking, i was then reprimanded for eating the pringles and was told i was not allowed! I was completely embarrassed in front of my family. I then went back into my room and stayed there for the remainder of the evening.
This really ruined my stay and birthday. I then went down to breakfast the next morning and saw newly placed signs stating that no food that is not bought on the premises is to be consumed in that area. These signs were not present the evening before, which i felt was a reflection on me as i was the one who was approached about this the evening before. This experience was the worst! I do not recommend this hotel.. i paid 115euro for the night, and you can get better for cheaper!
Extremely disappointed.

Dear Meg, Thank you for reviewing The Lucan Spa Hotel on TripAdvisor. We are sorry to read of your disappointment following your recent stay. As you discussed in your review, our manager on duty quietly approached your party and reminded you it was against policy to bring in your own food for consumption. This is a universal policy in the majority of establishments around the world and is certainly not unique to our hotel. In fact, we do sell pringles also for guests along with other crisps and snack items. We even sell a wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. This would have been the end of the conversation, and it was never the manager's intention to cause embarrassment or highlight this to fellow guests. In our eyes, this was a gentle warning and nothing more. However, a number of your party took exception to this quiet warning and escalated the issue, taking exception to this request and demanding to the policy signs that they insisted should be on display to highlight this. Our manager was shocked that such a non-issue became hostile very quickly. We don't feel we should have each and every policy displayed on signage (particularly ones that are universally known among all persons). However, on your party's request, such signage was put on display that evening and following morning. Ultimately, we are sorry you feel your night was ruined. Once again, a simple standard request made in confidence to you by our manager had no need to be escalated to the level your party raised it to. If you truly believe that fact you don't drink alcohol gives you the right to bring in and eat your own snacks to a trading establishment, I would think this occurrence will happen to you again. I suggest when this does happen again, you accept any quiet, polite discussion by a member of hospitality staff, avoid any faux offence where none is meant and go back to enjoying your night out. You might find life a little more enjoyable. Kind Regards, Ulick Colgan Marketing Manager Lucan Spa Hotel.

Dublin Bus operates a regular service to and from the city centre. The bus stop into town is a short walk from the hotel into the city directly. The journey is around 20-30 minutes. For returning to the hotel, you can take the C3 or C4 at Aston Quay in the city centre and this bus will leave you back to the hotel directly. The cost is €3.30 per trip to/from the hotel to the city centre. You can also purchase a leap card. From the city Centre, you have the option of hopping on to a bus to the Aviva, grabbing a taxi or even walking (it’s about a 15-20 minute walk).

Dear Joey, Unfortunately, the hotel does not have leisure facilities. The name of the hotel originates from the natural spa waters that once existed on the site of the hotel from 1500s – 1900s.
