I have to agree with the person who titled their review, "“Historic, in all the BEST ways.” I was looking for authentic and old and I found it. Sure there were some cracks in the walls. What else would you expect in an historic building? We also had a corner room and claw-foot tub. We stayed 2 nights. I understand... More

You have to appreciate history to enjoy the Franklin. if you like unique, historic, and character you will like the Franklin. I do not like what they have done to the down stairs..it actually used to have an elevator operator. a front desk with cubbyholes and several little hidden rooms all over the downstairs very quaint and historic..now it is... Have stayed here several times, and will again. If you're looking for a brand new cookie-cutter hotel where all rooms are exactly the same and have no character, stay away; if you like historic architecture, and unique rooms with lots of 'character', and a fantastic location, you'll like this place. Creaky floors, odd room layouts, dated decor, and finicky temps... More

The Franklin Hotel is a landmark in Deadwood. While the lobby has been trashed by slot machines, the rooms are pretty much as they were a 100 years ago. Outside of the indoor plumbing, you might think you are walking into 1886. You don't come here for modern conveniences -- you come for the nostalgia and the Old West. It... More

The Phasada of the Hotel is decieving and yeah is an old Hotel but they need to work on the plumming because while you are trying to sleep you can hear the others guest in the hotel showering and using the facilities thru the pipes. not a good experience for my wife and I. Just came back from staying at the Franklin Hotel,...never disappointed! Love the place, love the people, I've been there many times and will be back. If you like U.S. History, this is the place for you, a fantastic hotel in a fantastic town.

The Franklin Hotel oozes personality. By that I mean, of course, it hasn't been updated since before your parents were born and many people believe its haunted. Yes, it would be a great set for a horror or western movie. I don't think you can go wrong here. Great value and perfect location. If you are the Marriott type, stay... More

This hotel is old. But that gives it a lot of character and for the price we paid ($30 a night midweek for a kingsize bed room), it was just perfect. There were a couple of boxelder bugs, but this is South Dakota, they are everywhere, and they don't bite so I didn't care. The biggest surprise about this creaky,... More

I honestly don't know how some reviewers can give lousy reviews to some places. Especially when they have never actually STAYED there! My wife & I ALMOST canceled our reservation based on such a review but were glad we didn't. Our 'historic' corner room was on the third floor and you could look right down the wide main street all... Stayed for a conference Friday Sept 28 to Sunday Sept 30. Checked in Friday afternoon. Beautiful restored lobby. Turns out that is the best part. PArking is at a premium in Deadwood and the Franklin has spared every expense to provide patrons a place to leave their vehicle during their stay. We were directed behind the hotel to a small...
