Despite its unassuming look from the road, the vagabonds treasure lies behind the motel rooms on the cliff above the Columbia. We were in a room on the second floor with a stupendous view of the river and cliffs. We watche boats and birds and just relaxed. The front desk staff were very friendly and told us the story of... Thanks and glad you enjoyed your stay. Yep, my grandparents moved to Hood River from Montana after seeing the cover of the Sacramento Post from April 1951, a copy we have hanging in the office. 3 years later of that publication, almost to the day, they opened the doors of our little hotel. We'll do a bit more work on... More

I debated on whether to review this place or not because it is so nice, and I don't want too many people to find out about it! Our room was on the third floor with a balcony and overlooked the river. We could see the parasailors on the river. It is very clean and doesn't smell musty. The only criticism... More

Thanks for your review! Don't worry about sharing your great experience with others; it helps us make things even better for the next time you visit. 40 of our 42 rooms are smoke-free, but should a person choose to smoke they can do so as long as it does not go against Oregon law or our guidelines (no smoking in... During crazy ice storms, I got into a car accident by Hood River. I checked into this hotel and the pepole there were very nice and helpful! The room was quite spacious and very clean with a tv, microwave, and fridge. I would definitely recomment this place to everyone! More

Glad we could help out during the ice storm; mother nature was not being nice those days. We've seen people on the freeway during all sorts of weather for almost 58 years and will continue to recommend that when conditions make it too much of a mess to drive, to stop somewhere safe until the storm blows over. Glad you... More

My fiance and I stayed here last Friday night and we loved it. I am usually the type to find the "fancier" hotels (if you will), however, I prefer quaint over heavy traffic and views of parking lots, when possible. It was easy to see from my online searches that the chain hotels were all mid city and probably not... More

Glad you had a great stay and thanks for your review! We do like to offer a little more charming surroundings, and we will continue to be updating furniture and fixtures as well. We want to make sure we get stuff for the rooms that everyone will enjoy; the large showerheads for example. As always, let us know if there's... More

We stayed here three nights for New Year's weekend and were so happy! We upgraded to a fireplace suite and had an amazing view of the Gorge to wake up to every morning. Our dogs got to come and the place is very pet friendly, Pet waste stations everywhere and plenty of places to walk them, not to mention all... More

Thanks and glad we could pleasantly surprise you! We do have a low profile out front with our original building (circa 1954); many people are surprised to learn about the rooms overlooking the river, hidden from the road. We'll be continuing to make improvements to the rooms (like the showerheads) this year, working on making each stay better than the... More

The Vagabond was great. Very clean room, comfortable bed, thick towels. It was rainy and dark while we were there, but the grounds around the hotel looked well kept and would have been nice to enjoy in better weather. It's an older motel and our room had just the basics, but it has some updates and is well cared for.... More

Thanks for your review! We're going to get some more wildflowers to have around the grounds, as well as update furniture. Glad you enjoyed your stay, hopefully next time it won't be as dark outside so you can see the view! thanks again. More

We stayed at this hotel in October when we did the "Fruit Loop". Everything was great. The front desk lady was really nice and friendly. We stayed in a cabin which had a wonderful jacuzzi tub and a fireplace. It was really clean and comfortable. The grounds are great, especially if you have little kids. There are 2 play areas... More

Glad you enjoyed your stay, thanks for the review! Give us a call anytime you plan on coming back, and we'll be continuing to work on surprising you with more good stuff in the jacuzzi suite you were in (or the other rooms too) next time. We'll let Sara and Mary know you love their potpies too! Thanks again More

This was the only place we could find for a Saturday night. We were in the older part with a partial view. As others have stated it is an older motel, but very clean about a mile on the western side of Hood River right on the way from Portland. Nice, clean, well lite grounds around the buildings, bathroom somewhat... More

Thanks for your review and feedback! The shelves for the bathrooms are buing built and painted right now, so they'll be ready for you the next time you are in town! We'll have them in the larger view rooms as well so you can choose whichever room you would like and have plenty of shelf space. Thanks again! More

We used to stay at the Columbia River Gorge Hotel, but this time it sold out and we had to go next door. Not too shabby! Older hotel/motel, but the rooms are huge and we had an amazing view, second floor. Fridge and heater in each room. Decently comfortable bed. My parents stayed in one of the suite/cabins with full... We stayed overnight in a suite at this motel mostly because it had a vacancy the night before arriving and accepted dogs for a nominal fee ($5/night for dog, $150 including tax for the room). The room had a queen bed in the living room (along with a working fireplace which was great), and a another queen bed in a... More

Thanks for your review and feedback! When the building you were in was built, my Uncle kept the sink and shower seperated because he thought it would be nice to have the sink available should another person be in the shower. The size of the ADA doors do cut down a lot of the space too. I would prefer a... More
